Now, since Türkiye has much newer rock formations compared to other countries of the world, it is possible that it is a little bit higher. I think it was about 1300 metres above sea level. In addition, since the Central Anatolia region has a high altitude in general, other underground cities are also like this.
Also, yes, it was quite airy, especially the upper parts. This rock type, volcanic tuffs, is much more light and air permeable than other rock types. Also, volcanic tuff is known to keep cold in summer and warm in winter. Hotels in the neighbourhood are also made of tuff for both aesthetic and economic reasons.
Our ancestors were very intelligent and they thought everything through and created such wonderful and unique structures of architecture which are still a matter of thought for us.
