Hello, Hivers! Good day!
I'm thrilled to share another adventure with you today. This time, I’ll talk about our visit to Simala. To get ahead, we decided to wake up at around 3AM to prepare and leave early. We packed essentials like umbrellas, water tumblers, and facial tissues for the inevitable heat.
The Road to Simala
We started our journey at dawn. We were welcomed by a breathtaking sunrise near Danao as we drove there.
As we drove on, the scenery transformed. Through the car window, the light had a golden-hour feel, and the sky glowed with vibrant hues of orange and yellow.
We also crossed the bridge in Cebu, passing by tightly packed houses.
Arrival at Simala
When we arrived, we parked by the roadside.
Almost immediately, a friendly lady approached us, selling bracelets. These were only ₱10 each, yet they looked far more expensive. The designs were detailed and varied, making them perfect as souvenirs for family and friends. I even took a close-up photo because I admired the craftsmanship so much.
Joining the Line and Exploring the Shrine
We joined the line to enter the church, which was already crowded despite the early hour. The heat was starting to build, but yes, we managed it with umbrellas. Around us, some people used umbrellas as well and hoodies, or scarves for sun protection. Regardless of the heat, the wait was worth it when we finally saw Mama Mary’s statue inside. The experience was incredibly peaceful and uplifting.
Reminder: Always bring water to stay hydrated, especially in hot weather.
The church’s design was another highlight. It resembled a castle, with details that reminded me of chess pieces, especially the rook. The architecture was unique and impressive, something I’d never seen before.
Lighting Candles and Finding Serenity
The candle-lighting area was vibrant and colorful, with tall candles in various shades. Each color had a special meaning, and seeing them lit created a mesmerizing scene.
Inside the prayer area, the atmosphere was calm and sacred. Many devotees prayed in silence, thanking Mama Mary. Some touched the golden square on her glass case with handkerchiefs or made the sign of the cross. The serenity was overwhelming, and I felt emotion that was difficult to describe—a mix of peace and gratitude.
Memories to Take Home
As we're about to left, I found a beautiful spot for photos. The gold-colored design in the background added elegance to the picture.
Nearby, another altar caught my attention, where families were taking turns for photos. I quickly asked my sister, to prepare so we could capture a moment there too.
By the way, here's what I purchased: two bracelets—*black and white. I even had them blessed before leaving.
Heading Back Home
Before heading home, we bought a small statue of Mama Mary. My mother carefully held it during the ride to keep it safe.
The journey back was just as beautiful. The fresh air and lush greenery along the road were refreshing. The sight of trees swaying in the breeze and the cool wind made the drive feel serene.
It was the perfect end to a day filled with faith, beauty, and meaningful moments at Simala.
