When I visited Vrsac, two days ago, I climbed up to the Vrsac Tower, a famous medieval fortress in Serbia. As a big fan of fortresses and castles, I was very excited and looking forward to a new time travel with my children.
The path to the tower leads through a very pleasant forest. My children were impatiently waiting for us to climb to the top of the hill and see the tower, so they walked faster than expected. 😊
We climbed to the top of the hill, and there was such a beautiful sight waiting for us.
The views were so stunning that I wanted to stay there as long as possible. I felt like I was on top of the world.
And right there on top of the world is the imposing Vrsac Tower.
There were a lot of tourists because of the event dedicated to the grape harvest that was held there that day, which I wrote about in my previous post.
Vrsac Tower is the symbol of Vrsac town and the most preserved is the main quadrangular tower. Next to it, there are also the remains of smaller semicircular towers. Vrsac tower is a witness of medieval life, not only war life but also everyday life and you feel it when you are there.
My son couldn't wait to get inside so we headed there.
We climbed the stairs to the first floor.
There we read interesting stories and legends related to the fortress. The fact that all those mysterious stories exist indicates the importance of this fortress and its survival over time. Whether you believe in those stories or not, they awaken your imagination just as they did when the fortress was being built.
My son liked the legend about the dwarfs who once upon a time inhabited the Vrsac forest and came from some distant mysterious land. According to the legend, people were afraid not to make them angry because if the dwarfs got angry, they would leave. There would be a drought then and everything would fall apart. That's why they believed that they should take care of Vrsac hill and protect nature so as not to anger the dwarfs.
There is also a story about a duel between two heroes, a Serbian and a Turkish one, and that the winner of the Vrsac Tower went to the Serbian hero Janko.
The most famous legend is about a princess who was turned into a snake by an evil sorcerer who lived in Vrsac Tower for centuries. My son looked for cracks where the snake could be hiding. He was very curious. 😊
Then we climbed up to the terrace, which offered a magnificent view.
And then we went up to the second floor, where there were exhibited items that were used for defensive purposes by warriors and in everyday life.
We saw Gothic plate armor, it seemed very solid and powerful.
As well as various types of weapons.
Then we went up to the floor that my son liked the most because there was a knight waiting for us at the table. 😊
That room was arranged as a dining room and medieval dishes were displayed.
There was also another knight, as well as the coats of arms of prominent Serbian families.
We also saw a cannonball (round shot), a type of artillery projectile with an immediate effect.
When we finished the tour, we went out to the terrace once more to wave to my daughter who was waiting for us in front and to take another look at the vastness in the distance. I wanted to engrave that view in my mind for a long time because it is very relaxing and made our day worth remembering.
Thank you very much for reading.
The images and writing are original and mine.
Greetings!

How long did it take to reach the top? It looks like a long walk just to reach the top.
Anyways the view is just magnificent. Seeing this kind of beauty will surely make me feel at peace, if it is I that's in that part of the world. Thanks for the virtual tour. Seeing what's inside in the tower make me feel the urge to fly in there and go on a tour, lol.
We didn't walk to the top for long. It is only 300m away from the parking lot.😊 It is very beautiful indeed, worth a visit. 😊
I don't think your son could have asked for a more adventurous day. Lots of stories and legends, it's truly a medieval lover's dream.
I wonder how long it must have taken to get to the top and like you, I don't think I'd ever want to come down.
My son had a great time indeed. 😊 It is only 300m from the parking lot to the top, it seems that it is very high, but it is not.😊
