Falcon, desert area in South America.

I had heard of an area in Venezuela with special characteristics and it is that it has the only desert that Venezuela has, a country where the green of nature is predominant in all seasons of the year, not only in its spectacular Amazon area but in its four Cardinal points.

This area is called Médanos de Coro National Park, it is in the Coro municipality, in the state of Falcón, with the dazzling history that it was the first city created by the Spanish colonizers upon their arrival in South America. This municipality is located in the northwest of the country, its coast bathed by the Caribbean Sea, and in its northern area there is an isthmus that is where the only existing desert in Venezuela is located.

According to those known on the subject, the reason for the formation of this desert area is given by the combination of warm winds and tropical sun for thousands of years on the rocks that were part of the landscape of the area and that today is nothing more than an extensive area of sand that is lost on the horizon due to its extension.

The area is far from where I live, but since it was a family tourist trip to an area where we had never been, we decided to go in our car to appreciate each wonderful natural attraction in the area.

On the trip it was pleasant and impressive because as we advanced we were appreciating the metamorphosis of the fauna as we went from tropical landscapes full of vegetation to increasingly arid areas where cacti and vegetation typical of those climates predominate.

As a curious fact said by the same inhabitants of the area, these sand formations change shape every day since the wind that circulates through the area changes the surface of each sandy formation that predominates in the area.

The weather without a doubt hits the skin with a strong sun accompanied by dry air that despite the heat does not let you sweat, while the sand slowly seeps through your clothes and with each step inside your shoes.

A highway divides the desert area in two and is the one that allows communication through the Isthmus of Coro with Punto Fijo, an area further north in Venezuela, and frequently specialized machinery removes the sand that the highway fills, because if it is not removes could completely cover the road, cutting off both regions.

Without a doubt we enjoyed the stay in the region because it is the first time that we lived such an experience as it is a unique region in the Venezuelan territory.

Without a doubt, we will visit the area again to learn more about its history and extensive culture.
