English Version

My publication is from one of the busiest and most emblematic avenues in Old Havana, so famous that one of its intersections was immortalised in one of the most popular Cuban songs ‘La Engañadora’, by Enrique Jorrín, many can already guess what avenue I am going to talk about. I am referring, of course, to Prado Avenue and its Central Promenade.

Prado Street begins at the Malecón and stretches all the way to the Fuente de la India, very close to the Capitol. Its best known stretch begins at the intersection with Neptuno Street, the place where the story that inspired the famous chachachá ‘La Engañadora’ takes place, and it is here that an extensive Paseo Central begins. For this reason many Cubans consider this point as the true beginning of the avenue.

The Paseo del Prado has always been a special place for many reasons. Its spaciousness makes it ideal for a leisurely stroll, accompanied by the shade of leafy laurels, which ensures that we can always be under their shade. It also has along its sides, rustic benches carved in stone, with marble backs where we can rest and take a moment to enjoy the fascinating colonial architecture that surrounds it. This is why hundreds of people, both locals and foreigners, pass through here every day, while the children make it their playground.

In recent years, art has invaded the promenade, filling it with colour and creativity. Every time I visit this space, I can't help but associate it with the great museums of the world, although here the works are exhibited in the open air and are accessible to everyone, at any time, free of charge. And the best thing is that you can not only admire them, but also buy them, because throughout the Prado beautiful paintings and handicrafts are on display for sale, making this place a true artistic paradise. I love to see the constant presence of painters and easels along almost the entire length of this beautiful promenade, giving life to the urban landscape and making this space a special place.

I especially enjoy the diversity of creations and ways of doing what is exhibited there among the different generations of artists, where each one brings his or her unique vision. I enjoy appreciating the amalgamation of styles and particular forms, between colours and lines I always find something that amazes and admires me.

To finish my tour, I cannot fail to mention the famous lions of the Prado, unmistakable symbols of this avenue. Cast in bronze and of an imposing size, they are the eternal guardians of this beautiful avenue, witnesses of the life that goes on around them.

I share with you the link of the musical theme of which I have spoken several times in the publication, I hope you enjoy it and dance to the rhythm of Cuban music.
