Camping out in the Cape along the coast is just awesome here in sunny South Africa. The entire country is under daily blackouts of four hours or more, but when you’re camping with solar panel and battery kit, there’s no power cuts to worry about. What a blissful life, with no hot water or flushing toilet. Just the old bush pit and ice bath challenge. The joys of Africa at its sweetest.

Epic Robberg beach, Garden Route

You will love this style of camping out once you get to the Indian ocean here on the south coast of Africa. No electricity to block out the stars. No noise from industry of any kind, or anything of any kind. A pitch black night under the trees – in a cabin of course.

Heating water on the fire means collecting wood from the surrounding forest. Running a laptop and wifi means catching solar rays in the panel. So when it’s cloudy then there is simply less power and less laptop. And so campers get to spend less time on the blue light screens and more time observing the fire flames and the sun’s rays.

The beach is still epic at this autumn time of year, or fall as you might call it. Waters of the warm Indian ocean are much cooler this year, and summer was short and mild. I presume we are in for a cold winter. Perhaps it’s the Tunga volcano that erupted last year in the south Pacific and the ash cloud has blocked the sun. Or maybe it’s the mini Ice Age and Grand Solar Minimum. Take your pick.

Still the beaches are filling out with tourists over this upcoming holiday season. The little stretch known as the Garden Route is a hidden gem for tourists, so pop on over and take shelter of the camping lifestyle under the trees or on the beach. The sun is our source of power and life so we place it up there at the top of our pyramid. Water is second in line. Perhaps they tie for first place.

Whatever it is, my laptop is about to die so I had better upload this solar driven blog post, published via solar panel and battery power for laptop and wifi signal. Living off grid for a while in the camp sight is just sweet, so pick up your backpack and head on over my fellow digital nomads. The beach awaits you.
