Ronda is a city in the province of Málaga in southern Spain. It has a rich history dating back to the Neolithic era, but it gained significance during the Roman rule, where it served as an important link between the cities of Cádiz and Seville. During the Islamic rule, Ronda became a major cultural center with the construction of several palaces and mosques. In 1485, the city was captured by the Catholic Monarchs, Queen Isabella I of Castile and King Ferdinand II of Aragon, marking the end of the Islamic rule and the beginning of the modern history of Ronda. In the 19th century, Ronda became a popular tourist destination, attracting writers and artists from around the world, including Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles. Today, Ronda is known for its historic architecture, including the Puente Nuevo (New Bridge) and the Plaza de Toros de Ronda, one of the oldest bullrings in Spain.
Ronda has a charming historical atmosphere and relaxed pace of life, with narrow streets lined with local shops, restaurants, and bars; just like a quote by an unknown, "Ronda is a place where you can breathe history and beauty in every corner." Walk crossing the Puente Nuevo during sunset is magical. The surrounding white houses turn goldish, with lights sparkling from their windows. As old as gold, it's a very ancient place, after all.
