Hello Hivers
Dead Horse Point State Park
Located in Utah, US. This State Park, overlooks the Colorado River, at an altitude of 5,900'.
The closest town is Moab, about 33 miles, and about 300 miles to a large city. It's a vast desert, in it's natural state for the most part, with stunning scenery.
The purpose of the trip was for.....
mountain biking, which Moab is know world wide for. There were many other tourists in the area. Off roading was very popular, as well as hiking. We saw many vans, and large vehicle conversions, or people having the van life experience.
The name of this park is a rather sad but true story. Some cowboys corralled a number of horses at the point. They left and didn't provide them with any water.
With over 5,300 acres there is a lot of area to explore, but the soil is very fragile and staying on a marked trail is very important. The desert climate and poor soil makes it very difficult....
for life to thrive here.
There is a terrific trail that runs along the entire rim and the views ....
are breathtaking. If you are ever in the Utah area a stop at this park is well worth the drive.
Thanks for viewing.
