Sad Rabbit Island

Okay, this was not part of the two-day itinerary in Hiroshima. But it turned out to be one of the interesting diversions we took. Why? This island we visited was full of friendly little rabbits, waiting to be fed.

About 20-minute ferry ride from a port in Omishima, is Okunoshima, a small island where rabbits freely roam around.

Those cute little carrot-munchers were not the only highlight of this island. It is probably not the right word to use; there is a controversy associated with this island, being home to poison gas museum. The ruins of the poison gas chambers, some cannons and working halls were amongst to be seen.  I am not into museums, and definitely have not become one after this trip. 😏

Anyway, you got to look back at times, to make sure you are on the right path and not deflect from your destination. It was a rollercoaster of mood, I also got anxious a bit, thinking there may be a fart of poisonous chemical waiting to pop out of nowhere. 😒 But the rabbits looked healthy and fat, thanks to the pampering tourists. It may not be their natural food chain cycle, but the island had become their home, and they rely now on tourism for food and maintenance. Interesting place, indeed.

The bunny is so camera friendly! Is this somewhere in Japan? I love the vines hanging on those tall buildings.

They actually run to you, for food haha. Yes this was in Japan, around Hiroshima. Those ruins were creepy but also enchanting.

Oh Japan is my dream country! I love creepy things though

Aww, I wonder how those rabbits got to the island. Thanks to the tourist they are still getting food.

Me too, and I do not want to know. There are way too much rabbits than tourists though, so most of them are starving. It could be worse in winter...
