Goodbye Turkey!

in Pinmapple5 months ago

As we are traveling without much of a plan from Turkey to Greece, by bus and boat, we have to pass through the little seaside town of Bodrum.

We arrive in Bodrum at 5’o clock in the morning, our plan was to just spend the day and take a ferry to Greece in the afternoon. It feels weird to leave Turkey, which we have come to highly appreciate over the past two months. But we are leaving, took a decision for the better or the worst, we don’t know that yet. We only know we should get to the ferries before they stop circulating in November.

On our way to the centre of Bodrum, I spot an open bakery and we decide to have some breakfast while we would discuss our further moves.

“Which ferry should we aim for?” I take a bite of my favourite Turkish Cake and pause, this is seriously the best version of it I have ever tried in the past two months.

We look at each other in silence, enjoying the bite of bisquet melting in our mouth. Nodding our heads in agreement, that this cake is exeptionally good.

“Even better than the one in Istanbul!” We keep on agreeing with eachother.

I try the chocolate filled “Simit”, it is still warm.

“What if we stay in Bodrum for a few days?”

Thats how the breakfast conversation about ferries and Greece, turned out to Bodrum and where to find a place to sleep.

Based on, what I believe to be the best bakery in Turkey, we stay just a few more days and nights. Glad that we don’t have to say goodbye just yet.

A few more days of soaking in the inspiration I am receiving from this country since two months.

Walks through the town and the market. Drinking fresh pommergranate juices.

Exploring all the streets and caffe's.

Appreciating the view.

Enjoying the coffee.

And each morning we find ourselves at the bakery that made us stay. Eating our last Turkish “Trilece’s” and chocolate filled “Simit’s”, while we talk about our journey, the one behind and the one that still lays in front.

But we can't stop time from passing by. The last day arrives, we make our way to the port.

Goodbye Bodrum!

Goodbye Turkey!

Thank you for passing by, enjoy your day!

All photos and words are my own.

I was expecting this upshot. Considering the current situation in the Middle East and how far you have gone, Greece was a reasonable choice. Although I don't comment much, I have read all your posts about your trip and I have to say it was quite a journey! I am thinking for a long time a similar route the other way round, from Greece to Turkey (not by bike, I am not that fit) but I always postpone it. Now you are in my part of the globe :) You won't find Greece in its best but I am sure you'll find your way around. If you need any info that I might know, I'll be glad to help.
Cheers!

Thank you!! That is seriously nice to hear:)
I am not sure if I'll do such a journey by bike again, but I must say by car that would be an adventure too, very inspiring!! (I have thought of that for maybe the next one)
In fact I am now already in Italy, since I am always a bit behind with posting, but still, Thank you:)

Stunning pictures of what must have been an amazing voyage. I also now realize that you are a little behind with your posting ( knowing that you're now in Italy ). Did you keep a diary?

Abraço

Thank you!! I try my best, not to forget to pull the camera out from time to time...:)
A bit behind indeed, the secret is exposed :D
Hmm I kind of tried, but then Hive became my diary... apart from a few times I remembered to write down some quick thoughts.

Yes and I understand 😄

Hmm I kind of tried, but then Hive became my diary... apart from a few times I remembered to write down some quick thoughts.

I totally get it.

I basically meant to say:

How do you remember all these details?

but I guess they return to you, once you go through and select your photos for a post :<)

Amazing how the memory works, right?

🤗

Eeh the memory thing is really interesting!!
(I mean most of the times I write right after but then post later...)
...but I find that when I was completely in the moment/present while I lived something I remember way better! Like I remember every mountain I cycled up with a lot of details, but for example all the school years of my life a just one mash that I can't really tell apart...

remember every mountain I cycled up with a lot of details, but for example all the school years of my life a just one mash that I can't really tell apart...

I get that. It's the same for me, including University.
Then again I have these fragments ( from my childhood up till now ) that keep springing up, randomly, sometimes when I smell something that awakens that memory or seemingly without a reason.

We are fascinating creatures and so is our mind ;<)

Eeh yes smells are crazy at reminding you of things!!

Pomegranate?

We are indeed, full of surprises:)

Can't say the smell of pomegranates brings back memories for me but I'm sure it will, in the future.

I basically learnt to eat this fruit, in Portugal, in the last couple of years. My sister has a pomegranate tree on her land.

It seems a wistful good-bye to Turkey. For whatever reason, I really like it that there's a chip in the serving plate in the third photo. Delicious coffee, treats. The cat, laying sleeping. Love that image, the cat's expression.

Looking forward to your next post with anticipation. 😊

You got the eye for the details😁

The cat! I found her very representative for the whole vibe that there was in the port (which is where she slept), very chill and no one really bothers😅

💚

Old habit since forever 😄

A port cat! I bet she gets a lot of fresh fish treats. Such a great pic!

Thank you for sharing your impression over the last two months, kesityu! Sceneries were nice but also I enjoyed seeing food photos. Chocolate filled Simit is tempting ... !

I wish you enjoy your travel & stay in Greece :)

It has been a real pleasure to share them!!😊 (thank you for reading them!!❤️)
The food photos made me hungry while posting...😂 I guess that backfired to myself!
Thank you, I am and will😊

Turkish simits are the most delicious ones! We had a chain bakeries not so long ago, but after Covid strike they shouted down each of :(

Seems like Turkey kept you a bit longer than planned, can't blame you, who can resist it!

Did you try freshly squeezed pomegranate juice, often it's sold on streets (:

They are the best for sure!!
Have you visited turkey?
...as I said every day😊

It sounds like you had a delightful time in Bodrum, and the decision to stay a few more days seems to have been a wonderful choice, especially with the delicious bakery finds! It's always hard to say goodbye to a place that has left a positive impression. Your journey through Turkey seems to have been filled with beautiful moments, delicious treats, and memorable experiences.

Thank you!! Indeed it was a lovely time spend there, and very hard to leave!
😊

Awwww, goodbye kitties!!

💔
...when I'll have space for kittens in my life I come back with a golden renault and adopt some😁

I can see you now, hand-stitched Turkish silk scarf fluttering in the wind as you drive down the road in your golden Renault, cats and kittens sprawled out across seats and dashboards. And one in your lap, of course. A little marmalade kitten.

You got it!! That's exactly what I am aiming for!!:)

Upvoted for the Golden Renault comment and I don't even drive a car ;^)

My parents had a couple of Renaults though, starting with a Renault 5 in the late 70s/ early 80s and ending with a Renault Espace, about a decade ago. Now my mom drives a Peugeot.

Those baked treats look so tempting 😋. Wishing you safe travels, and hope you have a beautiful time in Greece.

They do, I already miss them!!😁
Thank you!!😊
