Hola y buenas tardes mis 💞viajeros💞, hoy les quiero invitar a realizar un recorrido super interesante por la heladería más famosa de Cuba" Copelia" esa que se encuentra ubicada en pleno corazón del Vedado Habanero y que ha sido testigo de la recreación sana de las tantas generaciones de cubanos y extranjeros, entonces comencemos.
Haciendo un poco de historia la actual Heladería Copelia tuvo en el siglo pasado varios usos antes de ser lo que es hoy en la actualidad. Por ejemplo en el siglo pasado estuvo enclabado en las manzanas correspondientes a las calles 23 y 21 , L y K el Hospital Reina de las Mercedes , nombrado así en honor a la esposa del rey Alfonso XII quien tras haber pasado por el fallecimiento de su amada decidió homenajearla como se debe. Ya en el actual siglo muchos lo simplifican como Las Mercedes y hay veces que ni siquiera slgunos saben que estuvo ahí.
Luego ya en el triunfo de la revolución del 59 el sitio fue demolido y sus terrenos fueron adquiridos por una compañía norteamericana de la construcción en donde se planifica el levantamiento del parque INIT quien funcionó como centro recreativo hasta los años 1966 cuando se realizó el congreso internacional en las instalaciones del Hotel Habana Libre y fue allí que surge la idea de cambiar el bullisioso estilo de vida que se llevaba por algo más tranquilo y familiar que le ofreciera a inquilinos y los visitantes cercanos esa paz y armonía citadina a la que todos aspiraban pero sin dejar de pasar la recreación sana y necesaria.
El proyecto original de la heladería estuvo dirigido por el arquitecto cubano Mario Girona quien diseñó un complejo constructivo duradero que aun mantiene su esplendor y belleza a pesar de los años y el nivel de abando existente. El nombre del lugar fue por el ballet clásico titulado Copelia, una obra de tres actos dirigida por el teatrologo Saint-Léon. Esta obra fue además la pieza de ballet favorita de Celia Sánchez otra de las mujeres más influyentes en la historia de la revolución cubana y de ahi su homenaje por el líder histórico.
La capacidad de personal que admite la heladería es de 1000 personas diarias y a travez de la multivariada y novedosa combinación de sabores se puede pasar un rato agradable en compañía de familiares y amigos.

Copelia fue además uno de los escenarios del largometraje cubano Fresa y Chocolate. Una cinta que fue uno de los primeros espacios en donde se mostró la homosexualidad en el cine latinoamericano y que aun es bien recordada por muchos anteriores a mi generación.
