Argentina - Winery tourism in Cafayate, Salta province: tasting the local wine production at El Recreo Farm. 😃❤️

Cafayate in the province of Salta is a small but charming town, surrounded by beautiful mountains and plenty of interesting things to see, but also a big part of its tourist attraction is the amount of wineries it has. This province of my country Argentina is a producer of good wines, as is the province of Mendoza, and it is almost obligatory to try some of the local production when you are in this area. What I like most about being where the production takes place is that most of these establishments open their doors to the public and you can visit the facilities to taste the wines that are produced there ❤️.

On my previous days of travel I had been doing quite a lot of walking, so when I arrived in Cafayate I decided to relax a bit and experience the walk a little slower. While I love the mountains, I also wanted to do other types of outings and visiting the wineries was ideal for this. The good thing was that in Cafayate there were a few of them to choose from, of varying sizes and volumes of wine production, but they certainly didn't disappoint in taste. It was just a matter of choosing one and going, paying a small entrance fee to get a guided tour and a wine tasting at the end 😃.

I had arrived in Cafayate less than a week before and had already had the opportunity to visit a wine producing farm called Cafayate Goats. There we paid 5000 ARS ($5) for a guided tour and a wine and goat cheese tasting, which seemed adequate. As for the rest of the places, most of the guided tours and wine tasting only cost between 3000 and 5000 ARS, depending on the winery. This price was mostly symbolic to get to know the place, because if you wanted to buy a whole bottle of wine you could get very good ones from 5000 ARS as well 😃.

If you have followed the gossip I told in my previous posts, the day after I went to visit the farm with the goats, the Dutch guest had to continue his journey to the north of Argentina and I stayed in Cafayate to continue my volunteer work. However, I came up with the idea that on my two days off from work at the end of the week we could make a short trip together if I took a bus to Salta capital, which is where the next stop on his trip would be. Luckily he liked the idea and accepted it, so we organised everything very quickly to make it happen later. But while I was waiting for the weekend to arrive, I took the opportunity to visit Finca El Recreo, a kilometre and a half from the town of Cafayate, by myself 😃.

For this visit I paid a ticket of 3500 ARS and was taken on a tour of the whole place, which included a beautiful vineyard (out of season because it was August), a historic building, sales room, production room with vats, bottling room and wine cellar. After this one I visited other wineries, but this was the one I liked the most of all. I studied food engineering at university, so in all these years I visited many wineries and learned about wine production, but in this one I saw ceramic fermentation tanks for the first time. It was very interesting 😃.

At the end of the walk came the most interesting part of all, which was the wine tasting. As the name says, they give you a little of each variety so you can taste what it tastes like. In the case of this estate, I tasted three wines: two reds and one white. In my country, Argentina, it is very difficult to find a bad wine, and these were no exception. During my engineering degree I also did a wine course where we learned to taste and analyse quality attributes in taste and appearance, so I was able to apply that knowledge here as well. As well as, of course, drinking wine, which I love 😂.

While waiting for the day to arrive for my romantic getaway, I was glad to have had the chance to spend the time visiting this finca. The only ‘bad’ thing I could point out was that I had to go to the winery in the morning, as I was doing my volunteer work at the hostel in the afternoon. Drinking wine in the morning is not something I really recommend, but all in all the three drinks were not even as much as a glass so it was fine. If you go to Cafayate you can't miss the local production and also take a bottle with you for later: when it comes to wine, it's always better to have too much than too little 😂.

Cafayate in the province of Salta is a small but charming town, surrounded by beautiful mountains and with quite a few interesting things to see, I see a lot of beauty, but also a big part of its tourist attraction is the amount of wineries it has, especially if this province of Argentina is a producer of good wines, like the province of Mendoza, it would be a charm to visit these nice places, to taste some of the local production when you are in this area. How nice, when I visit my son who lives in Argentina, I will tell him that these places would be my first visits. Thanks for remembering. I wish you success my friend @lauramica.

Winery tour is very beautiful, I saw it and enjoyed it, it was amazing ❤️
