Altitude 2000 Restaurant

in Worldmappin2 years ago

Continuing our hike on the Grand Balcon Sud in Chamonix, we made our way to a restaurant called Altitude 2000, aptly named for its actual elevation on the mountain.

There are ski resorts all around the Chamonix area with many many cable cars and chair lifts dotting the hillside.

Not all were running that day but I'm sure that they are all in full force in the winter months. Chamonix is a world renown ski destination afterall. The restaurant probably makes a killing off skiers in the winter months as well.

Altitude 2000 is situated in a picturesque setting, surrounded by green grass and beautiful snow capped mountains.

It has a large patio with outdoor seating with shade umbrellas to hide under from the sun and the lookout from the platform is truly spectacular.

It was the perfect location to take a break and recharge before our journey back the way we had come from.

The weather was really amazing that day as well. It was bright and sunny but not too hot either. Actually, it was a little cool that high up on the mountain.

We ordered drinks and some food to enjoy while we rested. I took the opportunity to order a local brew that was one of my favorites in all of France while we were living there. It was called Mount Blanc La Rousse. I'm sure its just psychological but beer always seem to taste better when you're on vacation, especially if it is a local brew.

Drinking Mont Blanc beer in direct view of Mont Blanc itself...(photo above)... who wants to guess that I planned that?

The food at the restaurant was simple pub food but it ended up being quite good overall. We both ordered the same thing, sausages and fries.

After we finished our lunch we walked around the restaurant for a bit to see what else was the area.

20220714_142744~2.jpg

That location had a bunch of paragliders taking off the hill as well which was kind of neat to see. I don't know why I didn't take a photo. Maybe I was just too caught up in watching them.

There were several different trails and pathways to hike in the area but we had already hiked a long way and still had to head back the way we came, so we didn't bother checking out the other trails. The Balcon Sud trail was really incredible and it was nice that the restaurant was there to take a decent break.

Well thats it for now. If you are interested in seeing more of our trip then stay tuned, there's more to come. Until next time, thanks for stopping by.

Actually, it is not psychological as the beer tastes different. I'm not going to name breweries, but I know of a few that actually use slightly different recipes for beer that they export, therefore it tastes originally only in the country of its origin 🙂

I have never been to Chamonix as I consider it too touristy, but it might be a good idea to go there just out of the season.

Great photos as always! Thank you for sharing!

That's interesting about the beer. I didn't know that. Makes sense I suppose.
Yeah going in the off seasons would probably be best to avoid tourists. It was okay when we went in July- surprisingly. Still very busy but not uncomfortable. Before June and after September I bet it slows down quite a bit before the winter season picks up.

Wow!! This is a dream!! I love the picture of the beer and the amazing mountains in the background! Truly they look like pictures for a magazine. Many people recommended me Chamonix For starting a life in Europe, this thing that you say about the resorts, seems to offer a lot of job, specially for UE citizens (I’m Italian, also Argentinian). This is the first time that I have a full view of this place, thanks a lot for sharing!!

Yeah it seems like there would be a lot of seasonal work there at the very least, especially in the winter when all of the ski resorts are running. It's quite touristy year round though. I'm don't know much about the work situation there but likely there would be many tourism related jobs. I'll have more posts about Chamonix in the future - the town itself and the activities in the area. It may take me some time to post them but it is the travel destination that I'm currently working on posting about.

Oh!! Great!! I’ll be waiting for them!! Thanks a lot for your response and for telling me a little bit more about Chamonix!

Absolutely stunning. A view like that would make any meal taste amazing.

Haha yeah that's true. It was a very beautiful setting

great views, with beer and a snacklet of sausage and chips, my kind of day out!!

Mine too 👍
It had everything a person needs

Oh my what a beautiful, almost heavenly, place @leaky20. It's like a scene in a movie!

Yeah it's a pretty famous location for travel. Very beautiful indeed

It is truly stunning.
Pub food is always nice, but that sausage looks like it's missing a bit of Brown Sauce.

Drinking Mont Blanc beer in direct view of Mont Blanc 😆itself.

Haha! That sounds like something my husband would do. I think he'd be more fascinated with the beer though. Some cool photos:)

Yeah a brown sauce would be good for sure. It was a pretty simple meal. More like a snack really, I suppose.

The beer was really good. My favorite French beer.

it must have taken a lot of effort to photograph.
I wouldn't be able to do that

Do you mean the hike to get uo there? The hike was moderate. The actual photo taking was pretty easy though, just point and shoot haha 😄

yes, but someone is a perfectionist and does it on X. someone first good

Oh I see 😁

I could get used to this scenery! Great shots.

Yeah I would love to live close to Chamonix. It's a very nice place

Wow - the scenery is just stunning. Been to the Alps in winter, but never in summer. The views are always outstanding !

Ha I'm the opposite, Alps in the summer but never winter. I'm sure its just as beautiful anytime of year, in its own way.

Not bad at all and that is a really good refuge there. Impressive mountains in that corner I must say. But snow all gone already yeah?

Yeah on that side it was all gone. There was snow higher up on the mountain. We were only 2000 meters so it had all melted by July. In the 3000 meter range there was snow though.

Picture perfect @leaky20 sure thing, I'm following your adventures.. t'was like I'm there 🤗 worth all the efforts I guess..😁

There will be more to come in the future as well if you like travel posts.

This is amazing. I went to Chamonix but only to the town area as we stayed in Saint Gervais. Next time I want to explore more. :D

The town is really pretty and there are a lot of things to do in the area. It's great that you were able to see it.

Yes, it was pretty, there's so much to explore in Chamonix. :D We just went there for the whole afternoon.

That's awesome 😁

Wow.. What a beauty to behold.. Greenery with icy backdrop is stunning.. Food looks great.. But it would be great to have a cup of hot coffee in this cold looking place. ..is it cold there? But people seem to wear short sleeves. 😅

It was summer so it was pretty warm. It's always a little cooler up on the mountain but it wasn't cold by any means. Still, a coffee would have been great as well up there.

The scenery looks like Switzerland it's so beautiful and calming, I am hoping to visit it on my future travel I know the cost would be expensive but the experience would be memorable, can I ask where country it is located?

It's in France, in the Apls mountain range right near the border of Italy and Switzerland. So yeah, it definitely looks like Switzerland as well since its so close and same mountains. It's an amazing location. Worth the trip!

Wow, amazing pictures ☺️ I am very adventurous and I love heights, I would definitely endure and on that cable car ☺️ thanks for sharing with us ☺️

You're welcome. I'm glad you liked it. Sounds like a good place to put on your list to visit lol

A very quiet, peaceful, mind-blowing environment. My mind is drawn. A country worth living. A place with a suitable living environment. And a green color that can be kept very lightly. An area of natural color.

Yes, it is all of those things. All and all a very pretty place.

This looks like a stunning place to visit but also work. If money wasn't an barrier, I'd love to buy something like this one day.

Yeah it would be great to work in such a nice spot. That would be a dream

i would probably list this place in my travel list soon!

Excellent! Good luck 👍

Sound like you have great trip, amazing views in all these photographs mountain looks wonderful ❤️😍

Yeah it was a really good hike. We quite enjoyed it 😀

Wow!! It looks beautiful and I hope you enjoyed a lot over there.!!

Yeah I really enjoyed it 😁
