Paris: The Louvre and Other Sites

in Pinmapplelast year

Continuing on with our walking tour my sister and I left the Royal Palace of Paris and made our way to the Louvre Museum.

Just outside the gate, we were approached by a group of people holding clipboards and making gestures to demonstrate that they were deaf. Normally I'm on guard for any sort of scammers or peddlers or what not, but this one caught me off guard so I stopped to see what it was all about.

"Oh it's a petition," I thought. "Okay whatever, I'll put a name down to get this over with so I can get the hell out of here." I filled out the first few columns and then came to the part about donations. All previous names indicated that they donated 20+ euros. "Well, fuck. I should have seen this coming." I said that in my head of course. Out loud I was like "oh sorry, I didn't realize that you wanted money. I don't have any" and I didn't, I don't carry cash around with me in general. The people began to vigorously tap on the section of the paper indicating that they are deaf. "Oh right right you're 'deaf.' But I have no money, sorry. Okay sorry. Yep sorry," talking loudly as I vigorously pushed the clipboard back into their hands. Big exaggerated angry/sad frowns on their faces. In my head i was like "yeah, yeah, yeah now fuck off."

We kept going, making our way into the museum courtyard.

Most people are probably aware of the double glass pyramids there, having seen them a dozen times on TV or in the movies.

20220712_100424~2.jpg

This was my first time seeing them in person and I thought that they were pretty neat.

20220712_100440~2.jpg

It wasn't too busy in there at that point either so that was quite nice.

20220712_100432~2.jpg

We saw this couple taking one of those perspective photos and thought that it would be fun to try out so I got onto a block and stuck my hand out way above my head. "This will probably take forever but let's try it."

IMG-20230222-WA0000.jpg

My sister was like "put your arm down...further...further...no like way down." I'm like "Really!? This low??" "Yep" and then "Okay got it." I was surprised at how fast she got the perspective right. The whole thing from me jumping up to jumping back down took about 45 seconds. I've tried those sorts of shots before and have always given up on them. I can never get the angles and perspective right when I'm the one behind the camera.

After that we walked along the Seine and across a few of its many bridges.

20220712_104927~2.jpg

At one point she was like "I'm going to wave at these tourists passing by on the boat down there." Not the same one in the photo below.

20220712_104942~2.jpg

She wasn't subtle about the wave. She did this dramatic swaying her full arm style wave and the people on the boat smiled and laughed and waved back.

I think everybody is usually pretty happy on a sunny day on their vacation.

20220712_104751~2.jpg

The weather happened to be excellent as you can see. Nice and sunny and bright.

20220712_105207~2.jpg

The Notre Dame Cathedral is still being renovated since the fire that nearly burnt it down a few years back.

20220712_110622~2.jpg

We were heading by there though, so we popped over to view the front facade. A lot of it was hidden behind construction fencing.

Something that I have tried to do on several visits to Paris is to go into the Shakespeare and Company English bookstore, located in the latin quarter of the city.

20220712_111142~2.jpg

In the past it has been closed during my visit so I haven't been able to go inside yet. This time it happened to be open but the lineup was too long for me to wait. I doubt I'll ever be able to see the inside of the place at this point. Cool bookstores always seem to have crazy long line ups out front.

20220712_111013~2.jpg

Right around the corner is Odette, the location that sells delicious cream puffs that I discussed in a previous article.

20220712_111358~2.jpg

We spent a bit of time browsing the gift shops in the area, though neither of us bought anything that day.

20220712_112514.jpg

That area of the city is pretty cool actually. There are a lot of things to see and the neighborhood has a cool vibe about it. I wish we spent a bit more time around there, but we still had more of the general touristy sites to see so we headed out and on to the next location.

Well thats it for now. If you are interested in seeing more of our trip then stay tuned, there's more to come. Until next time, thanks for stopping by.

Sort:

You got the Louvre pyramid spot on I am impressed!

Seems like visitors to Paris are a soft touch 20 euros fuck that. Think how many cream puffs that could buy!

Yeah it was my sister who nailed the photo. It's the person behind the camera that has to do all the work and figure out the angle. She did an impressive job.

I think the other names on the list were probably fake, put there by the people holding the form lol. Its like putting large bills in a tip jar to subtly influence how much others tip. Lol

Now that is something that has passed me by, I just thought some people were over generous

Out loud I was like "oh sorry, I didn't realize that you wanted money.

Yes, you should have seen that one coming. Still, I get your reaction. I hate being bothered and then getting that kind of a surprise, and would probably have reacted the same.

I don't carry cash around with me in general.

My economics professor said that his monthly budget of expenses included an extra €300 for the eventuality of being mugged. He said he valued his life and felt that if he was to be mugged at the corner of the street, having that money to hand over could be enough to save his life.
#AnExpenseForYourLife.
Not all of us have that luxury, but it was food for thought that still resounds in my head.

Yeah I should have seen it coming for sure.

That's interesting. I feeling if I carried around that amount of money I would just end up spending more money. It's like "hey I have cash, what the heck may as well just buy that (insert item here)" 😆

"hey I have cash, what the heck may as well just buy that

I'm with you there! That's one of the reasons why I seldom carry cash. My professor was an exemplary and disciplined economist.
Sad to say it, but I could only trust that a thief would have the right instinct to go to him and not me if ever we were walking down the same street.😆

Haha yeah exactly. Carrying around that amount of cash is just asking to get mugged. Thieves always know who to target 😆

Thieves always know who to target 😆

Haha! That's true.
I've got all kinds of friends, including dodgy ones, who tell me that if they were robbing they would pick me. Not because I'm flashy, but because I just look like I have money... That's scary because that's SO FAR from the truth 😅

Haha that's pretty funny 😂

Paris is on my travel list for sure! Thanks for the tour @leaky20!

Don't know why but I never liked these glass pyramids hehe! They sure look big though!

That's fair. Everyone has different tastes and styles and I've heard other people say the same thing. Paris is worth a visit no doubt.

Awesome, very beautiful view in all these photos look like you have enjoyed a lot. My favorite place Paris😍

Yeah it's a great spot indeed. There are many of them in the city

Paris is amazing! Unique experience!

Yeah I really loved the city, each time that I went.

I like the humor in this blog, I could literally hear you talking to the deafs saying "Chu I dont have money."

I just see this place on TV, it feels good to walk here through your blog. Even the shops I think I saw it in several movies! This is just so wow!.

Yeah I doubt that they were actually deaf. I'm sure that they heard me as well.

Yeah it's a nice spot in the city.

I saw that you are competitive with photos in perspective! nice one where you keep the tip of the pyramid! 🤣
You have earned my follow!

Haha perspective photos are fun to try 😄

Yeah, I miss it, guilty. Tell your sister I would've put that shot of you holding down the museum on the cover. Wink.

Yeah? that one should be the cover? The problem with it is that it was taken as a portrait, and a portion of portrait photos always get cut off when they are a cover. So I can't judge how it would be centered on my blog and I hate when things aren't consistent on the blog haha 🙃
I'm a perfectionist I guess lol.

Nah, they're all covers. I know what you mean, the time I spent editing this response I could've enhanced a 6-pack of images.

Haha sometimes writing a comment takes longer than a post lol

Perfectionist? Well, you missed the beat there! Change the bloody cover photo to the one suggested by danday's and see if the subject is centred and perfect... you can always switch it back. It doesn't cost to edit, you know? Or crop the sky...

Haha that's a fair point I guess.
