Berestechko and Plyasheva, Volyn region, Ukraine. Tourist places at dusk

It was a very nice day. My travels and my life are like two different realities. A trip is always a holiday, a positive mood and carefreeness...

Sometimes when looking at my photos, it is difficult for me to form my thoughts. Because the reality is much worse. This morning I again read the terrible news about the shelling of Zaporizhyia and the hitting of a russian rocket into a residential building... There are casualties. And at the moment, I just turned off the Internet to abstract myself from it. Please, remember, the war continues!
If I add to this my personal troubles (they happen every day because of helping homeless animals), then the lack of inspiration for posting becomes clear.

То був дуже гарний день. Мої подорожі і моє життя це ніби дві різні реальності. Подорож — це завжди свято, позитивний настрій і безтурботність... Іноді переглядаючи фото, мені важко сформувати думки. Бо реальність значно гірша. Сьогодні вранці знову прочитала жахливу новину про обстріл Запоріжжя і влучання російської ракети у житловий будинок... Є загиблі і в даний момент я просто вимкнула інтернет, щоб абстрагуватися від цього. Зрештою, люди під завалами і точна кількість ранених та мертвих буде відома згодом. (Пам'ятайте, війна триває!)
Якщо до цього додати ще свої особисті трабли, а вони стаються щодня через допомогу бездомним тваринам, то стає зрозумілою відсутність натхнення.
Часом я заздрю самій собі, коли бачу оці чарівні налиті сонцем і вітром світлини.

I started to tell about this day, but due to the large number of photos, I could not finish. Let me remind you that it was a spontaneous trip that began at lunchtime. First, my friend and I went to visit an acquaintance, and later we moved to the river. So, by the time we reached the Berestechko, the sun was getting ready to set and illuminated everything with a copper color...
Of course, we never dreamed of entering the Cossack battle museum.

But believe me, there is something to it when you find yourself in a tourist city at a non-tourist time, for example early in the morning or at dusk. Everything can be seen from unexpected angles.

Про цей день я почала оповідати, але через велику кількість фотографій не могла закінчити. Нагадаю, що то була спонтанна подорож, яка розпочалась в обідню пору. Спочатку ми заїхали в гості до знайомого, згодом на ріку Стир. Отож поки добралися до омріяного Берестечка, то сонце готувалося до заходу і освітлювало все навіть не золотим, а мідним кольором...
Звісно у музей козацької битви ми не мріяли потрапити. Але повірте, а цьому щось є, коли ви опиняєтесь у туристичному місті в нетуристичний час! Найкраще рано вранці або в час сутінків...

In Berestechko

Berestechko is a city of contrasts and... ghosts. It is located in the North of the country, in the historical region of Volyn. It is one of the smallest cities in Ukraine, because its population is approximately 1700 inhabitants.
Google Maps showed me a photo with a beautiful church standing over a river. We found it by the main road. This is a majestic massive building with 5 domes. I sincerely thought that it was a modern building, but I learned from the stands in front of the church that the temple was built at the beginning of the 20th century in honor of the 350th anniversary of the Battle of Berestechko, and was completed in the interwar years. The Volodymyr's Cathedral in Kyiv was taken as a model! And now there is the repair and improvement of the yard and fence.

Берестечко — місто контрастів і... привидів. Знаходиться на Волині. Одне з найменших міст в Україні, адже його населення складає приблизно 1700 жителів.
Гугл-мапа показала мені фото з гарною церквою, що стоїть над рікою. Ми без проблем знайшли її при головній дорозі. Велична масивна будівля з 5-ма куполами. Неовізантійський стиль. Я щиро думала, що це сучасна будівля, проте зі стендів перед церквою дізналася, що це швидше довгобуд. Заклали храм ще на початку 20 ст. на честь 350-річчя Берестейської битви, а завершували у міжвоєнні роки. За зразок було взято Володимирський собор у Києві! А тепер роблять ремонт і огорожу подвір'я.
Також зі стендів можна дізнатися про деякі інші старовинні будівлі околиць.

Позаду церкви прокладають асфальт, гуде техніка. Скоро буде справжня краса.

The river is somewhere very close and we went to look for it... I imagined a wide embankment with benches where you can finally drink tea and have a snack.
But... There was only a small flood here and a very swampy area.

Я цілеспрямовано шукала "правильний ракурс", побачений у гуглі. Ріка десь зовсім поруч і ми пішли її шукати... Я уявляла собі широку набережну з лавочками, де можна нарешті випити чаю та перекусити.
Але... Тут була лише невелика заплава і дуже болотиста місцевість.

But what a strange place it is. It seems that time has stopped right here, in the shadow of the great cathedral.
Very narrow streets (the car will not pass everywhere!), old wooden houses of blue color. This walls look like sky.
What is interesting, quite organically there coexist residential traditional houses and abandoned semi-ruined ones.
If I were given the freedom, I would take a lot of photos here. But people now became distrustful. War. Most normal people don't take pictures of dilapidated houses:) Maybe someday...

Але яке ж це дивне місце. Здається саме тут, у тіні великого собору зупинився час. Дуже вузькі вулички (машина не всюди проїде!), старовинні дерев'яні хати блакитного кольору... Що цікаво, цілком органічно там співіснують жилі будинки та закинуті напіврозвалені.
Якщо б мені дали свободу, то я б зробила тут дуууже багато фото. Але люди тепер стали недовірливі. Війна. Більшість нормальних людей не фоткають розвалені хати:) Може колись...

Finally, we rested in the park, in the shade of trees in the company of... Bohdan Khmelnytskyi. This outstanding Ukrainian hetman is considered one of the most powerful leaders and fathers of the nation.

Врешті ми таки відпочили у скверику, в тіні дерев у компанії... Богдана Хмельницького. Цей видатний гетьман донині вважається одним з найбільш потужних лідерів і батьків нації.

Such a beauty accompanied us throughout the walk by the town. It seems to be used to it.

Ось така красуня супроводжувала нас по всій прогулянці Берестечком. Здається, вона до цього звикла.

Later, we went to another sacred building, which simply amazed and captivated me. The Church of the Holy Trinity impresses both with its size and execution, and, unfortunately, with its unpreserved condition. Oh, what a scene for a thriller it would be.
The church was built by the Poles (completed in 1711) in honor of their victory over the Cossacks in the battle of 1651.

Згодом ми подалися до ще однієї сакральної будівлі, яка мене просто вразила і захопила. Ну по-перше, бароко це завжди гарно, особливо у маленьких містечках, де немає надто багато пам'яток. По-друге костел святої Трійці вражає і розмірами, і виконанням, і на жаль його не збереженим станом. Ох, яка ж це би була декорація до триллера.
Ось така доля багатьох костелів в Україні... А тут ще є специфічна причина. Церкву збудували поляки (завершено 1711) на честь своєї перемоги над козаками у битві 1651 року.

The building is traditional for Roman Catholic architecture. the basilica has three naves and two towers and an attached porch. The gray color of the walls of the building and its height add to its majesty. It is difficult to take a photo, because there are old trees growing around, which seem to hide the church from the world.
At that time, the sun was peeking through the broken windows. And it seemed that there was a light. Light from the past! Everything changes. Ukrainians won the final historical battle for this territory. And now our enemies are not in the west, but in the east:(((

Будівля традиційна для римо-католицької архітектури. Тринавна базиліка із двома вежами-дзвіницями та прибудованим ґанком. Вразив сірий колір будівлі і її висота. Фото зробити важко, адже навколо ростуть вікові дерева, що ніби приховують костел від світу.
У той час сонце заглядало у розбиті вікна. І здавалось, що там світить світло. Світло з минулого! Все змінюється. В кінцевій історичній битві за цю територію перемогли таки українці. А зараз наші вороги не на заході, а на сході (Росія!)

If the facade looks quite strong, then the destruction of the towers, in particular the roof, can be seen from the side. In Soviet times, there were some warehouses here, and later the building slowly collapsed over time. Now it belongs to the Greek Catholic Church.
In my opinion, this temple should be restored and preserved, because although it reminds of the defeat of Ukraine, it is ancient! There are not many similar monuments of this scale and age in Ukraine.

Якщо фасад виглядає досить міцним, то збоку видно руйнування веж, зокрема даху. У радянський час тут були якісь склади, а згодом храм просто повільно руйнувалася часом. Зараз він належить греко-католицькій церкві.
На мою думку цей храм потрібно відновити і зберегти, адже як кажуть, з пісні слів не викинеш і хоч він нагадує про поразку України, але є старовинним! Подібних пам'яток такого масштабу і такого віку не так і багато в Україні. А ви що скажете???

Another attempt to find a way to the river... And finally, almost at sunset, we got to a wooden pier and another river flood. Here is a beautiful cathedral and its reflection, I found a dream view!
The Styr is a peculiar river, at least in this place. It does not have a single current, there are thickets and islands on it. But the water here is clean, algae are clearly visible.

Ще одна спроба знайти шлях до ріки... І нарешті, майже на заході сонця ми потрапили на дерев'яний пірс і ще одну заплаву ріки. Ось красивий собор і його відображення, я знайшла омріяний ракурс! Евріка.
Стир — це специфічна ріка, принаймні в цьому місці. Вона не має єдиної течії, на ній є зарості та острови, отож, таке враження, що це якісь окремі водойми. Та вода тут чиста, добре видно водорості.

In Plyasheva

Almost at dusk, we entered the village of Plyasheva. The battle took place in 1651 on a field between two settlements. On one side was the army of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and on the other was the Cossacks army and Tatar allies.
There are many questions and many mysteries of this event. Ukraine suffered a defeat, which probably inflicted not so much a physical as a psychological blow. I admit, I still need to read more about it.

Майже у сутінках ми в'їхали у село Пляшева. Битва відбулася у 1651 році полі між двома населеними пунктами. З одного боку було військо Речі Посполитої, а з іншого військо Запорізьке і союзники-татари. Багато є питань до цієї події і багато загадок. Україна зазнала поразки, яка мабуть нанесла не так фізичний, як психологічний удар. Татари зрадили і викрали гетьмана Хмельницького на кілька днів, що стало однією з причин поразки. Але зізнаюся, мені ще варто про це більше почитати.

There is a museum on the outskirts of the village. I intended to take a walk on its territory, but as it turned out, everything there is surrounded by a high brick wall, and the gates are closed.
Orthodox monastery is active on the territory. There are two churches there, an old wooden one that still remembers the Cossacks and a modern brick one with interesting elements.

І хоч битву називають "Під Берестечком", але вона відбулася у полі ближче до Пляшевої. Саме тут і знаходиться музей. Я мала на меті погуляти територією, та як виявилося там все обгороджено високою цегляною стіною, а брами зачинені.
На території діє монастир. Там є дві церкви - старовинна дерев'яна, яка ще пам'ятає козаків і сучасна мурована з цікавими бароковими елементами.

Opposite this complex there is a small grove, planted in 2000. It is so cozy.
A monument to the Cossacks rises in the middle of the park.

It depicts three figures standing in a circle, covering each other's backs, facing the enemies. And these days this monument is very relevant. The same Cossacks, only in a different uniform and with different weapons, defend our country from evil spirits.

It was almost dark! How mystical this monument looked in such lighting. I really didn't want to go anywhere from here.

Навпроти цього комплексу є невеликий гай, закладений у 2000. У ньому так затишно.
Посеред парку височіє пам'ятник козакам. Там зображено три постаті, що стоять зробивши коло, прикриваючи спини один одному, обличчям до ворогів. І в наші дні цей пам'ятник дуже актуальний. Такі ж козаки, лише в іншій формі та з іншою зброєю боронять нашу країну від нечисті.
Вже майже стемніло! Як містично виглядав цей пам'ятник у такому освітленні. Мені реально не хотілось звідси нікуди йти.

Some coniferous plant smelled very nice and for some reason the sea was remembered.
But in front of us was not the sea, but a field. Battlefield. Once upon a time, thousands of people died there, scientists of different countries cannot name the exact number. However, it is not only a place of defeat, but also a place of strength. The souls of the fallen support us in the present struggle.

I plan to come back here to take a tour and learn more about the place. I invite you too.

Якась хвойна рослина дуже гарно пахла і чомусь згадувалося море.
Але перед нами були не море, а поле. Поле бою. Колись там загинули тисячі людей, вчені різних сторін не можуть назвати точне число. Проте це не лише місце поразки, а й місце сили. Душі полеглих нас підтримують у теперішній боротьбі.
Ви можете, сказати, душі не прикріплені до певного місця? Можливо. Але кілька зовсім різних людей, селян, що траплялися за час цієї мандрівки, казали: "Обов'язково поїдьте і Пляшеву. Там особливе місце". І я так кажу вам. Але бажано таки потрапити у музей і замовити екскурсію:)
Я планую повернутися.
