The first time in the National Hotel/ Primera vez en el Hotel Nacional

My best friend, a traveling companion on the tour we took through Havana, fulfilling the list of places we had yet to visit, had never been to the Hotel Nacional de Cuba. And... well, we went there to celebrate having completed one more step in the plan, which was also the reason for my trip to the capital. Things were going better than expected for me, so the goal could only be one: enjoy as much as possible and celebrate the good things we were going through together.

Mi mejor amigo, compañero de viaje en el tour que realizamos por La Habana cumpliendo la lista de lugares que nos faltaban por visitar, nunca había estado en el Hotel Nacional de Cuba. Y... bueno, para allá nos fuimos a celebrar el haber cumplido un paso más en el plan, motivo también de mi ida a la capital. Las cosas me iban saliendo mejor de lo esperado así que, la meta solo podía ser una: disfrutar al máximo y celebrar por las cosas buenas que estábamos pasando juntos 🥰.

The place is really beautiful, especially at night, and seeing it from the outside is a bit impressive. Built in the eclectic neoclassical style, they give the building great majesty. The visitor's attention is captured by the garden galleries that recall the monastic cloisters with Spanish-Moorish arcades, the main floor similar to three parallel naves of a medieval church, or the simulated ceiling beams that recall an old Catalan monastery with Arab reminiscences. source. The American firms McKim, Mead & White and Purdy & Henderson Co, in charge of the plans and execution, completed the majestic mansion in two years, opening its doors on December 30, 1930, that is, within 6 days it will be fulfilling 94 years.

El lugar es realmente hermoso, sobre todo de noche, y verlo desde fuera impresiona un poco. Construido al estilo neoclásico ecléctico, brindan al edificio una gran majestuosidad. Atrapan la atención del visitante las galerías de los jardines que recuerdan los claustros monásticos de arcadas hispano-morunas, la planta principal semejante a tres naves paralelas de una iglesia del Medioevo, o las simuladas vigas del techo que rememoran un viejo monasterio catalán con reminiscencias árabes source. Las firmas americanas McKim, Mead & White y la Purdy & Henderson Co, encargadas de los planos y la ejecución, concluyeron la majestuosa casona en dos años, abriendo sus puertas el 30 de diciembre de 1930, o sea, dentro de 6 días estará cumpliendo 94 años.

I had been there before. Last April I went with my sister for the first time (I shared the photos with them) and then a second time with a friend from Havana. Now I was with @yecier for the third time and it was nice. We had a nice time and had an ice cream shake for dessert and then a coffee in the Hotel's cafeteria. The previous times I was there I was really impressed because the prices did not seem expensive to me, but quite the opposite considering the place and the service, as well as the conditions. But, now on this last visit everything had changed a lot, a coffee cost 200 Cuban pesos. It seems like an exaggeration to me, but, well, in the end we still paid for it and enjoyed the moment, except that from then on my friend began to joke about asking for the menu first and not being guided by my suggestions based on previous experiences 😆.

Yo ya había estado antes ahí. El pasado abril fui con mi hermana una primera vez (les compartí las fotos) y luego una segunda con un amigo habanero. Ahora estuve por tercera vez con @yecier y fue bonito. Pasamos un rato agradable y tomamos como postre un batido de helado y luego un café en la cafetería del Hotel. Las veces anteriores que estuve salí realmente impresionada porque no me parecieron caros los precios, sino todo lo contrario teniendo en cuenta el lugar y el servicio, además de las condiciones. Pero, ahora en esta última visita todo había cambiado bastante, un café costaba 200 pesos cubanos. Me parece una exageración, pero, bueno, al final igual lo pagamos y disfrutamos del momento, solo que a partir de ahí mi amigo comenzó a bromear con el asunto de pedir primero la carta y no dejarse guiar por mis sugerencias basadas en experiencias anteriores 😆.

The Gallery is another of the beautiful places that the establishment has. When I went with my sister we took a lot of photos, but on this occasion I preferred to leave the spotlight to Enrico, since it was the same exhibition 🤭. The Hotel store always has good products and at much cheaper prices than those that can be found in my province, for example. I took advantage and bought some things.

La Galería es otro de los sitios hermosos que tiene el establecimiento. Cuando fui con mi hermana nos tomamos muchas fotos, pero, en esta ocasión preferí dejarle el protagonismo a Enrico, pues era la misma exposición 🤭. La tienda del Hotel siempre tiene buenos productos y a precios mucho más baratos que los que se pueden encontrar en mi provincia, por ejemplo. Aproveché y compré algunas cosas.

But, without a doubt, the best place in the Hotel is the garden 😍, it is beautiful. And there are loose peacocks that when they open their tails it is a dream to see. The fountain in the middle has a play of green and blue lights that provide a welcoming color at night. One of the previous times I was there, two weddings were taking place there.
There are also some swings from where you can see the Malecón avenue and the sea on the horizon 🌅. I really enjoyed sitting there and having a leisurely coffee.

Pero, sin duda alguna el mejor lugar del Hotel es el jardín 😍, es hermoso. Y hay pavos reales sueltos que cuando abren la cola es un sueño verlos. La fuente que está en el medio tiene un juego de luces verdes y azules que de noche brindan un colorido acogedor. Una de las veces anteriores que estuve se estaban celebrando dos bodas allí 🥰.
También hay unos columpios desde donde se ve hacia la avenida del Malecón y en el horizonte el mar 🌅. Disfruté mucho sentarme ahí a tomarme un café pausadamente.

If you have not had the opportunity to visit the Hotel Nacional, I recommend that you do so. It is a place where you can spend a very pleasant evening in good company, and even though the prices are not as they were a few months ago, you can still pay, the atmosphere is worth it. In the case of us, national tourists, it is a little expensive, but for the hivers foreign friends who read this post, it will surely be more affordable, so, "go for it."

Si no has tenido la oportunidad de visitar el Hotel Nacional, te recomiendo que lo hagas. Es un sitio donde se puede pasar una tarde-noche muy agradable en buena compañía, y a pesar de que ya los precios no están como hace unos meses, igual todavía se puede pagar, el ambiente lo vale. En el caso de nosotros, los turistas nacionales resulta un poco caro, pero para los hivers amigos extranjeros que lean este post, de seguro será más asequible, así que, "anímense".
