Northern Lights Village Deu/Eng

in Worldmappin19 hours ago

Hallo liebe Community,

Al

Hello dear community,
after dinner and a quick trip to the local supermarket, as we had only booked half board, it was already quite late and we were tired from the journey. So we made ourselves comfortable in our bed under the stars and quickly fell asleep in anticipation of the next day.

Now it must be said that one of our main goals for this holiday was to see the Northern Lights. However, the forecast before we arrived was not exactly rosy, as little activity and cloudy skies were predicted. Our hotel had a special app for this, which we of course downloaded onto our phones as soon as we arrived. This sounds the alarm as soon as the Northern Lights are seen over the holiday village. Shortly before midnight, and contrary to expectations, the time had come. The alarm went off and woke us up. We were immediately wide awake and searched the sky through our glass roof. But all we saw were light veils, a little reminiscent of thin clouds or fog.

Now you also have to know that the Northern Lights appear in varying intensities. If they are only light, you can hardly see them with the naked eye. When the northern lights are strong, you can see them green with the naked eye and they dance in the sky. The strongest northern lights are not just green but have shades of color up to red. As I said, we had quite weak northern lights that night. However, if you choose a long exposure time on your cell phone or camera, you can see the northern lights really well and take great photos. And what can I say, see for yourself, despite the weak intensity, we were able to take incredible pictures.

At first we only took photos through the glass roof of our hut, which was really great. But then we wanted to admire the northern lights outdoors and observe the entire expanse of the sky. But since it was now only -12 degrees outside, we put on the overalls, boots and gloves provided by the hotel and ventured out into the cold. We took a walk around the holiday village to find the best spots for photos. And what we saw out here under the open sky was one of the most spectacular things I have ever seen in my life. The sky glowed in all shades of green and changed every second. Luckily we were well prepared and had brought a tripod for our cell phone camera, which enabled us to get even better pictures and many of the other guests were out and about and did the same.

You could hear "Ahhh" and "Ohhh" from everywhere, but there were also places where we were completely alone and could enjoy the silence of the night. The spectacle lasted several hours and we had to go back into the hut every now and then to warm up. Exhausted and really tired, we eventually called it a day and fell dead tired into our bed. The next morning we were woken up by daylight that came through our windows from around 8:30 a.m. Full of anticipation for the next day, we got ready for breakfast because we had a lot planned.

Best wishes and see you soon, your
Al
