I have just a wonderful vacation in Isla Reta Beach Resort in Talicud Island, Mindanao and I can say with absolute confidence that it was one of the most calm and scenic beach vacations I have ever experienced. The term simplicity, connection to the natural world, and calmness leave their mark on every aspect of this place. If you are one of us who loves the calm waters, soft sand and light sea breeze, you should definitely put Isla Reta on your bucket list.

What I Saw When I Arrived

As soon as I arrived, the first thing that I saw was scintillating waters and fluffy white sand. The beach had an untouched charm, simple and free from the busy vibes of city life. Trees, lush and evergreen, covered the beach, affording superb natural sheltering from which one could recline and breathe in the ocean air.

The Clear as Mirror Waters

The water was transparent and as a result I was able to see fish moving by the shore. It felt like being in a postcard-perfect paradise. The sound of the sea and the lack of blaring music/noise did the trick of providing me with a feeling of peacefulness that is rare to experience at other bustling beach hotels.

Raw Beauty and Quiet Surroundings

Most noticeably the was the establishment of a quiet, tranquil atmosphere. As Isla Reta is undeveloped, you have the pleasure to enjoy the pristine nature setting. Don't think that there will be obnoxious parties or excessive hawkers here, just wave of the water and rustling of the leaves. Water is here the most pristine, shades of turquoise and blue. I'd be able to gaze at tiny fish around the shore and it left me feeling connected with nature. If you’re into snorkeling, this is a good spot to explore underwater life.

My Advice When You Visit

Following recommendations based on my own experience to make your travel more pleasant: .

  • Bring Cash: ATMs are not available on the island and all transactions are cash-based. Don't forget to have enough money for entry fees, food, and the cost of other things.

  • Pack Light but Smart: And of course, don't forget such things as sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and a reusable bottle of water. Make sure not to forget your swimming gear and snorkel gear if you have them.

  • Respect Nature: The reason that Isla Reta is so picturesque is that it is pristine and free from disruptions. Do not litter, and do not pollute the coral reefs or marine biology.

  • Plan Meals Ahead: The resort has a small canteen, but it’s better to bring your own food if you’re picky. If your palette enjoys things shortly off the hot plate, then you need to place your order ahead of time because preparation takes a while.

  • Go During Weekdays: If you’re after peace and quiet, visit Isla Reta on a weekday. The tourist influx can be high on weekends, especially in summer.

Things That You Can Do

Although all of them are a small, private island resort, there is much to occupy them. The calm and clear waters are perfect for swimming. I also enjoyed snorkeling close to shore and was really surprised by how many fish I saw. Camping under the stars is for the adventurous. Trees provide ample shade and the cool sea breeze makes it a pleasant feeling.

Perfect for Photography

Every corner of Isla Reta is Instagram-worthy. From the clear waters to the green trees and white sand, there’s no shortage of photo opportunities. [If you] are [like me] and, like, like to just chill out, there are wooden benches and hammocks on offer, too. Most wonderful to be in, with just a book, or lie back and enjoy the view.

What to Prepare

Since Isla Reta focuses on simplicity, it’s important to prepare for your trip. Bring essentials like toiletries, towels, and beachwear. While a canteen facility is offered at the resort, it is a wise decision to take along some favorite treats or beverages. Power is running thin and so it's wise to have a completely topped off power bank waiting in the wings. Just don't forget to pack the basics, band-aids, pain relief medications, and allergics.

How to Get There

The arrival at Isla Reta Beach Resort is also part of the fun! The first step is to reach Davao City. It is possible to fly from Manila, Cebu or from any other major city in the Philippines. Once in Davao, head to Sta. Ana Wharf.

From Sta. Ana Wharf, take a boat heading to Talicud Island. Boat trip normally takes one and half hour. Boats go at specific times, so check the times in advance.

When you have arrived at Talicud Island you will be instantly transferred to Isla Reta Beach Resort. There is also no difficulty to identify the resort and the staff are very friendly to it. Don't miss the last ferry back to Davao city if you't spending the night. Otherwise, enjoy the peaceful night at the resort!

Isla Reta Beach Resort, a quiet retreat in Mindanao, provides the blend of serenity, nature and value. Whether you’re traveling solo, with friends, or with family, this place is perfect for relaxing and reconnecting with nature. I've just escaped from the island on a high and grateful for the experience.

If you’re looking for a simple, quiet escape, Isla Reta might just be the paradise you need.

I wish this blog will help you after you are planning your trip to Isla Reta!
