What's up Hivers!
Hello! I'd like to tell you about another trip I had. This was the first time I visited Oslob with my family, although I did not get to see whale sharks, I did get to see the Cuartel Ruins, Baywalk and Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church.

We hesitated to step out of the van as we parked it near a large tree because it was past noon and extremely hot outside. However, we were amused by the ruins we saw on the left side as we opened the car window, so we stepped out quickly and ignored the heat. We walked there and snapped photos it would be wonderful if you took a prenup shot here, it would look fantastic. So this ruin is called Cuartel Ruins and based on what I've researched;

Cebu Cuartel and Baluarte ruinsThe Cuartel Ruins is now considered as one of the heritage sites in Cebu. This edifice was built by the Spaniards way back in 1860 during the Spanish era. It is made with thick coral stones which made the edifice so sturdy that it even withstood and remained firm amidst so many calamities like typhoon and earthquakes. It is supposed to house the Spanish troops in Oslob but when the Americans arrived, the Spaniards fled away leaving the construction of the Cuartel to be unfinished.

We came across old trees while we walked through the old streets of Oslob's Municipal Heritage Park and its shadows drew our attention so we snapped photos here as well. The street gives off the impression of being in a small village so we imagined like we were in there and It feels great to be going around a quiet peaceful town and admiring the scenery.

Then, when I turned to face the front I was practically speechless by what I saw, it was so magnificent that it felt like I was staring at a painting. The pure blue sky, the greens all around, the rustic benches, the crystal clear sea water, the sounds of birds chirping, leaves rustling, and the tranquil waves I completely forgot how hot it was as I remained there and gazed at the incredible scenery.

I began walking when I realized I had been left behind and gosh, their bay walk I am even more impressed, just look at that lovely artwork it makes you want to stop, stare and admire then sit down, close your eyes and relax under the tree.

Because it was too hot to manage, we went to a covered area where we could stay. This photo was taken by my daughter of me, my husband, and my sister-in-law and her daughter. The sea is in front of it and we talked and relaxed there while others went to buy foods. The area is surrounded with plants and huge trees, beside this place is the Baluarte I forgot to take a photo of it.

OslobThis is the result of my research on the Baluarte; These baluartes or the watchtower of the town served the place in a lot of ways back then. It functioned as a form of guarding the village against the possible invaders coming from the sea. Out of the seven existing baluartes in the town of Oslob, the most accessible and comfortable to reach is the one built back in 1788 and is located at the Municipal Heritage Park.

I went to the opposite end of where we were staying and saw this, which is their church, Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, as well as the church wall and gate. You can't see it very well because it's hidden behind large trees and I didn't get a good shot of the church with the mountain in the background.

Here's what I've researched about the place; Church Wall and Gates

Built back in 1875, these walls and gates were made to protect the town from Moro invaders. What makes these unique are the pyramid-shaped tips because this specific feature made it much efficient in protecting the town.

Immaculate Conception Parish Church

OslobConsidered as one of the oldest church in the entire province of Cebu, this church stood firm amidst calamities. Though it was already restored a couple of times because of fire (back in 1955 and in 2008), they manage to make it appear just like the original. Thus, this place is a historical one.

We decided to take photos on the bay walk with family before saying our goodbye to the place. We tried the jump shot and failed over and again, but it was so comical how we kept jumping when the other had not yet jumped or when others had finished jumping but the camera shot was late. Even though it was extremely hot, it was a great and unforgettable experience. I'm hoping we'll be able to return next time and I'll make sure to capture a lot of good pictures.

That's all for this blog. Thank you for sparing your time visiting my blog. Adios!
