Crossing frontiers, express visit to Laruns, France.

Hello to all of you who love to travel and get to know every corner of the world!

Today I am going to share my express visit to the other side of the frontier in France.

My boyfriend and I were going to spend a few days in the Pyrenees, so we decided to cross the border and visit some of the villages in the French Pyrenees or south of France the first day of the trip.

Hoy voy a compartir mi visita exprés al otro lado de la frontera en Francia.

Íbamos a pasar unos días en los Pirineos mi novio y yo, así que decidimos el primer día de viaje cruzar la frontera y conocer alguno de los pueblos del Pirineo francés o sur de Francia.

At first the idea was to go to three small villages in a row. The first was a village known for its cheeses, the second for its chocolates and the third for its vineyards and good wines.

It was late so we only went to Laruns, the first of the villages in the other side of the frontier.

Crossing the border although the landscape was just as green and beautiful but you could already see small details, which made the French Pyrenees something different from the Spanish, with its own charm.

We parked the car outside the village to see it better by taking a walk, the first thing we did was to stop at a butcher and delicatessen where we bought some sausages, and typical sausages from there, for dinner the next day in the apartment we had rented for those days.

I was surprised because it has always been known that in France everything is usually more expensive than in Spain, but the truth is that we took a little bit of everything for even better prices than here.

We continued walking and the first thing we saw was a small park with monuments dedicated to the fallen in the different wars of the country.

En un principio la idea era ir a tres pequeños pueblos que había seguidos. El primero era un pueblo conocido por sus quesos, el segundo por sus chocolates y el tercero por sus viñedos y buenos vinos.

Se nos hizo tarde a la hora de salir así que solo fuimos a Laruns, el primero de los pueblos nada más cruzar la frontera.

Al cruzar la frontera aunque el paisaje era igual de verde y bonito pero ya se podían observar pequeños detalles, que hacían del pirineo francés algo distinto del español, con su propio encanto.

Aparcamos el coche a las afuera del pueblo para poder verlo mejor dando un paseo, lo primero que hicimos fue parar una carnicería y charcutería donde compramos unas salchichas, y embutidos típicos de allí, para cenar el día siguiente en el apartamento que teníamos alquilado para esos días.

Me sorprendió porque siempre se ha sabido que en Francia suele ser todo más caro que en España, pero la verdad es que cogimos de todo un poco por precios incluso mejores que los de aquí.

Seguimos andando y lo primero que vimos fue como un pequeño parque con monumentos dedicados a los caídos en las diferentes guerras del país.

The main monument was dedicated to the children who died in the first World War, and it made sense, since inside that small park there was a school.

El monumento principal se dedicaba a los niños fallecidos en la primera guerra Mundial, y tenía sentido, ya que dentro de ese pequeño parque había un colegio.

If we looked at the surroundings we could immediately see the mountains. It is a little village surrounded by nature. Although the weather was not good, as it happens in all our trips, the views were still beautiful. We were so high that it was almost as if we could touch the clouds.

Si mirábamos a los alrededores en seguida se veía la montaña ya que es un pueblo rodeado de naturaleza. Aunque el tiempo no acompañó, como nos pasa en todos nuestros viajes, el paisaje seguía siendo precioso. Estábamos a tanta altura que casi parecía que se podían tocar las nubes.

In spite of the rain we continued walking along a street with some small stores, such as bakeries or the butcher's shop I told you about before. At the end we reached the center of the village and the first thing that caught my attention was a store that had outside a window with giant cheeses and some other sausages.

We decided to stop to buy some cheeses for dinner the next day and to take to some friends so they could try them.

At first I was worried, because although I have studied French for many years and have always had good marks, today I find it difficult to understand it and even more difficult to speak it. Luckily the sales clerks understood and spoke Spanish well.

The clerk at the cheese store explained to us what each cheese was and how strong it was, but in order to explain it better he decided to cut us some pieces of 3 or 4 cheeses for us to try. I thought we missed a glass of wine and it would have been a good lunch.

In the end we bought three different kinds of cheese and two red wines, although we were told that the typical wine of the area was white, but we are of the red wine team.

A pesar de la lluvia seguimos caminando por una calle con algunos pequeños comercios, como panaderías o la charcutería o carnicera que os conté antes. Al final llegamos como al centro del pueblo y lo primero que me llamó la atención fue una tienda que tenía fuera un escaparate con quesos gigantes y algún otro embutido.

Decidimos parar a comprar unos quesos para la cena del día siguiente y para llevarle a unos amigos y que pudieran probarlos.

Al principio estaba preocupada, porque aunque he estudiado francés durante muchos años y siempre tuve buena nota, a día de hoy me cuesta entenderlo y mucho más hablarlo. Por suerte los dependientes de las tiendas entendían y hablaban bien el español.

El dependiente de la tienda de quesos nos explicó de que era cada queso y como de fuerte era, pero para poder explicarlo mejor decidió cortarnos unos trozos de 3 o 4 quesos para que probáramos. Yo pensé que faltó una copita de vino y habría sido un buen almuerzo.

Al final compramos tres clases de queso diferentes y dos vinos tintos, aunque nos dijeron que el vino típico de la zona era el blanco, pero nosotros somos del equipo de vino tinto.

Once the shopping was done, we went for a walk around the town. The central square was small, but it had a little bit of everything, a hotel, a restaurant, a creperie...

Una vez con las compras hechas fuimos a dar un paseo por el pueblo. La plaza central era pequeña, pero tenía un poco de todo, un hotel, un restaurante, una crepería…

Next to the square I found a church which I found curious as it was different from the ones I had seen but I don't understand much about churches and their architecture. I wanted to take a good picture of it, but I didn't have much space to move away because the streets were narrow and there were many parked cars.

Al lado de la plaza encontré una iglesia la cual me resultó curiosa ya que era diferente a las que había visto pero tampoco entiendo mucho de iglesias y su arquitectura. Quería hacerle una buena foto, pero no tenía mucho espacio para alejarme ya que las calles eran estrechas y había muchos coches aparcados.

The bad thing is that we did not have time to do much because at one o'clock in the midday all the stores are closed, so we were left without buying something in the bakery.

We decided to return to Spain since it seemed that it was not going to stop raining and we had an hour and a bit to drive to the area where we were going to eat and visit later.

As soon as you leave the center of the village you can appreciate the mountains and nature, you can see that it is a small village lost in the Pyrenees with nothing else around and I love that.

Lo malo es que no nos dio tiempo a mucho ya que allí a la una del medio día se cierran todos los comercios, por lo que nos quedamos sin comprar alguna cosa en la panadería.

Decidimos volver a España ya que parecía que no iba a parar de llover y teníamos una hora y pico de camino hasta la zona en la que íbamos a comer y visitar después.

En cuanto se sale del centro del pueblo ya se aprecia la montaña, y la naturaleza, se nota que es un pueblecito perdido en los pirineos sin nada más alrededor y eso me encanta.

We got in the car but before leaving the village, we saw an entrance to a forest so we decided to take a walk to see what we could find.

After parking again, we decided to enter the forest area through a path that was there.

Subimos al coche pero antes de salir del pueblo, vimos como una entrada a un bosque así que decidimos dar un paseo a ver que encontrábamos.

Tras volver a aparcar, decidimos entrar a la zona de bosque por un camino que había.

We arrived at a very green area, full of very tall trees, thick and full of moss. It looked like a very untraveled and unspoiled area.

What surprised me was that there were circles with rocks where campfires had been made, I don't know if they are legal there, but in Spain at least they are not. Anyway, that made it more beautiful, rustic and special.

Llegamos a una zona muy verde, llena de árboles muy altos, y gruesos llenos de musgo. Parecía una zona muy poco transitada y virgen.

Lo que me sorprendió es que había círculos con rocas donde se habían hecho fogatas, no se si ahí son legales, pero en España al menos no lo son. Igualmente, eso lo hacía más bonito, rústico y especial.

We could hear the sound of water, so we looked for it and found a river flowing down some rocks. At the end we sat down for a while to enjoy the views, the nature and the tranquility.

Se escuchaba el sonido del agua, así que buscamos y encontramos un rio bajando por unas rocas. Al final nos sentamos un rato a disfrutar de las vistas, la naturaleza y la tranquilidad.

The truth is that I wanted to see a little more of Laruns and the surrounding areas and also to go to the other villages that I had left to see, but this way I have an excuse to come back with time to see everything I missed.

Finally I leave you a picture of the dinner the next day, with the cheeses, sausages and wine that we bought in Laruns. I just want to tell you that my idea is to go back and buy as much as I can and freeze it at home, because it was all very good and you can't find it in Spain.

La verdad es que me quedé con ganas de ver un poquito más de Laruns y las zonas de alrededor y también de ir a los otros pueblecitos que me quedaron por ver, pero así tengo excusa para volver con tiempo y ver todo lo que me faltó.

Por último os dejo una foto de la cena del día siguiente, con los quesos, el embutido y el vino que compramos en Laruns. Solo os diré que mi idea es volver y comprar todo lo que pueda y congelarlo en mi casa, ya que estaba todo muy bueno y no se encuentra en España.
