Quick dip in Kaputian Beach Park
My diarrhea didn't get any better after lunch but I was determined to visit two more spots before calling it a day. After putting my life on the line, I'm confident to say that both destinations should be on your list of must-visit Samal destinations.
Next stop after Sabang Cliff was a beach renowned for its white sand shore. In my mind, it better be white enough for it to be worthy of its name Kaputian Beach Park.
Upon entering the beach park, a preserved dugong will grab your attention. Don't freak it! It's a dead one and despite its size, it won't do you any harm. Keep your distance as it smells like formalin.
Kaputian Beach Park is huge. I wasn't expecting it to be big enough to accommodate guest shelters of all types. Wherever I looked, I noticed cottages big and small, concrete and wooden, and some even still under construction, strategically built all over the beach's premise.
This goes to show that business is booming and I'm one lucky soul to have avoided the crowd. With its proximity to Davao City, I bet Kaputian Beach Park is a favorite day-tour destination of Davaoeños.
Only a handful of tourists were there during this visit; I could only imagine the beach packed with loud teenagers making the most out of their summer. The weather was a little unpredictable, one moment it was all so sunny and the next, dark clouds gathered a few miles away and strong winds blow in batches. With this, the waves at Kaputian Beach were strong and steady. Perhaps, this is why I didn't go too far from the shore. I was weak and a little pull of the tides might do harm than fun. Better be on the safe side!
But if you really want to make the most out of your stay, by all means, swim but make sure you don't go beyond the buoys. There are lifeguards around but still, be careful.
My stay was short but sweet. Other tourists offered a helping hand in ensuring each moment is captured in my phone. The weather was getting weirder and I decided I should move on to the next stop before the dark sky turns into a thunderstorm. My driver/tour guide happily obliged.

My driver bursted "Layua aning imong mga ganahan adtuan Ma'am oy!" He was somehow complaining that the next destination I'm after is far away. It's unusual for tourists like me to go this far, but I'm no ordinary tourist. He said it in a friendly note tho. I was still hanging unto my dear life; my diarrhea was no better and with the quick swim, I was wet and cold.
Was it 30 minutes of maneuvering unpaved and unnamed roads? I couldn't recall the details. What's more important is that we made it in Alorro Crystal Beach Resort, it's in the far south of Samal Island.
And just look at the photos below? What could be a better medicine for my diarrhea than a view like this? The long trip was worth it!
It was indeed an unpredictable day. This was only a few kilometers away from Kaputian Beach Park where it was all gloomy but here, the sun was scorching even toasting my body. I had to stay under this tree's shade for most of the time. With only less than 20 people in the beach, it might've looked like I reserved the entire beach.
Don't get me wrong, Kaputian Beach Park is nice and more accessible, but if you're looking for a more immersive beach experience, I'd go with Alorro Beach. The sands are finer and whiter here and its more kid-friendly given the shore is relative plain and doesn't have a sudden downward slope. Be sure to bring food tho, during my visit there were no stores or carenderias nearby.
It was a slow afternoon and realizing this was my last destination before I go back to Cebu, made me think of how blessed I am to be able to do this. To travel for days on end without worrying (that much) about work, money and other things in life. Well, money is a problem but I don't dwell on the problem; I find ways to work around.
If not for two good friends waiting for me and a rumbling stomach, I would've stayed until sunset. But my presence is needed elsewhere and it would be rude not to show up for friends living in and visiting Samal. With that, I leave you with more photos of Alorro Beach.
