Introduction

Hi everyone it's @LivingUKTaiwan here with today's edition of the #TravelDigest. After one long month, our Pinmapple Thousand writing contest has finally closed today. We've had nearly 100 entries and it's going to take us a bit of time to read them all before we have the results. However, there's still a few days till the raffle ends on Saturday.

All featured posts are visible on the Editors Choice Map and upvoted by @pinmapple, @blocktrades, @theycallmedan and the curation trail. For more travel digests check out #traveldigest.

Our winners today 🍍

🥇 Port Arthur ~ An Historic Penal Colony in Tasmania by @kansuze

You quickly learn that life for an inmate was a real hardship, and you can read about individual inmates at the on-site archives.Imagine being sent off to Tasmania as a 6 year old for the crime of stealing a loaf of bread. At the same time, the inmates were a valuable slave labour force for Van Diemen's Land (later Tasmania) working mostly in forestry and the shipyard here.

🥈 From Greece to Morocco & Pyrenees motorcycle trip (part 12) by @orestistrips

We easily find a hotel with plenty of rooms in this quiet town and the family that owns it is so friendly. Father speaks no English, he uses his phone to communicate with us till his 11 year old son comes and gladly helps the situation. Those people really went out of their way to make the best possible for us. We ask them if there is any option to have dinner at the hotel as we're too tired to leave the hotel and they say they don't do so but they would for us.

🥉 The first national park in Canada: Cave and Basin & The most endangered species in Banff by @ladybug146

The walk inside the cave doesn't take long but it gets very crowded because it's a small space that may fit about 10 people at once at the most. I recommend taking a flashlight to help with photography, it can be very dark with only one small opening for the light to come in. The museum takes about half hour for a quick tour. There is a series of boardwalks established that goes up Sulphur Mountain thru the snail habitat with interactive signs for learning.
