Our winners today 🍍

🥇 Santa Pola, La Marina and Dolores in one afternoon by @mipiano

We arrived at Santa Pola and spent some time looking for a place to park. I thought it would be easier but the streets were full of cars already parked. No one seemed to have the idea of moving; Residents probably don't have garages in their buildings, so everyone parks on the street. And it was about time that here in Spain it is usually called siesta, the sacred nap after lunch. Well, we skipped it and came here to take a look.

🥈 Around Iran no. 9 – Persepolis by @olusiu

There is no debate as to what is Iran's most iconic symbol. Hands down, it's Persepolis. Currently, only ruins remain of the richest city under the sun, but how impressive! To reach this sea of ruins it is best to take a taxi, as Persepolis is located only 70 km northeast of Shiraz. Its history dates back to 518 BC, when the ruler of Persia, Darius I, began building it as the new ceremonial capital of Persia. The true splendor of the city was given not by Darius, but by his son Xerxes. It must be admitted that he was a disgustingly rich ruler, whom we can recognize, for example, from the movie about 300 Spartans, in which Xerxes was the ruler invading ancient Greece.

🥉 The Town of Leiria, Portugal by @larissalugo

Leiria is significant because it is considered the cradle of Portuguese democracy. The first settlement here dates back to long before the Portuguese state began to exist. Initially this area was a Celtic Iberian settlement, later inhabited by the Romans who called it Collippo. Lisbon's old name was Olisipo. In the eighth century Muslims arrived and stayed for a long time. However later Portugal's first king, Afonso I conquered the area and ordered the construction of a castle on a high hill for defense. The modern history of Leiria begins with this castle.
