This is the central railway station of our country and the largest one as well. This infrastructure for transportation in the country acts as a gateway to the country's capital. It's popularly known for its architectural significance. People say that this railway station is one of the most modern and striking buildings in the decade of its establishment and I believe that's true.

I came to my hometown this Monday by train and went to the station for my long 8 hours journey.

Let me share a few glimpses of the station.

Dhaka railway station is locally known as Kamalapur Railway Station as it's located in Kamalapur. It was opened on 1 May 1968, before Bangladesh became an independent country. So we can say, it's older than our country and this railway station was witness to the massacre that took place during the liberation war in 1971.

This beautiful structure was designed by two Americans; Daniel Dunham and Bob Buie. The station is spread over an area of 156 acres. It has 11 ticket counters and several passenger rest areas. It's huge, isn't it? Every day thousands of people access this station to go to their destination.

We were there at around 8.00 PM, the station was not overly crowded at that time. Our train was 1.5 hours late and it's usually in our country. We took the time to explore the place, and have some snacks and tea while waiting for the train.

Every station facilities are available there. But I wouldn't say all of them are hygienic enough to access. Like the public toilet and the food at the station. Also, what bothers me most is the number of homeless people who made their stay at the station it looks kind of random and unorganized.

This is what it looks like from the train. There is much reconstruction work going on and I came to know that it will be complete in 2023. The 36 squares and total of 49 columns will same as before.

You can find the detail of the place in THIS wiki article.

Before moving on from the station, we had our tea.

This is what the entire station looks like. I got this photo from the station's Facebook page. HERE is the source.

Our trains are not very modern, they are also 50 years old just like the station. But they usually provide all the basic facilities and try to upgrade modern amenities.

It was about time to say goodbye to the station. The hustle and bustle of the place were so vibrant, once we got up the train, we miss what we were been to.

The station was so lively and full of energy; I wouldn't mind spending some more time there!

Some of these photos are similar to our metro stations in Budapest, Hungary. So based on some of these photos, probably I would say that these photos are taken in a metro station, if I would not read that this is actually a train station.

Happy New Year.

Have a nice day. All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.

Yeah, the architecture of metro and train station is kind of similar in our places too.
Have a good day.

This is a huge train station! Though it's old the structure and design on the ceiling look modern.

I'm bothered and worried about those homeless people sleeping in the station too.🥺

I fully agree with you, the ceiling looks very modern.
I'm too worried about the homeless out there. But there are so many that we can't take care of them all, even if we wanted to. The station is kind of a safe home for them. But their drug usage and stealing habits make the passenger fearful. That's also true.
