Hello hivers. I hope you are all doing great. Here’s the fourth blog on my trip to Pondicherry. This is about how we spent our last evening at Pondy. If you haven’t read the previous ones, click here:

We had checked out of our hotel room and were off to the Promenade Beach. Here, you can see the statue built as a tribute to Mahathma Gandhiji. This statue is four feet tall and is made of black marble. It is known to be the tallest statue of Gandhiji in the whole of Asia. There are eight monolithic pillars around this statue.
Promenade has a lot of options for restaurants, hotel stays, cafes, stores and ice cream parlours too. One of the main attractions here is the Gelateria Montecatini Terme (GMT) Ice Creams. This brand is popular for the variety of unusual flavours of fused ice creams. They have Chilli Chocolate, Sacher Cake (Apricot + Peach + Dark Choco), Russian Flair (Apple + Milk + Vodka), Goat Milk, Amaretto (Milk + Almond Liquor + Roasted Almond), Irish Coffee (Milk + Whisky + Coffee) and so many more.
We tried the Amareno Gelato and the Irish Cream Gelato. Amareno was a blend of red cherries with milk which was pretty great. The Irish Cream was just fantastic. The flavour of Teachers whisky just had me head over heels for this beauty. I just could not get enough of it. They were priced at Rs.80 (1.09 USD) and Rs.90 (1.23 USD) respectively.
After spending some more time at the beach, we walked to Bay Of Buddha, a very fancy diner with a rooftop seating and a spectacular view of the beach. Sadly, my camera ran out of battery to capture the beautiful view from top. But I can assure you it was something anybody would love witnessing.
Here’s all we had at this place-
Mushroom Yakitori – Rs. 375 (5.11 USD)
Honey Sesame Lamb -Rs.695 (9.47 USD)
Thai Grilled Chicken Thighs -Rs.580 (7.91 USD)
Thai Chicken Satay -Rs.395 (5.38 USD)
The food in general was flavourful, spiced well and delicious except for the Honey Sesame Lamb which tasted below average. The service was a 10/10.
After a filling lunch, we were back at the beach and that’s when we spot Sicilys. Sicilys is an Italian Restaurant and we walked right in for dessert.
And here’s what we had here –
Sachertorte Pastry – Rs.150 (2.04 USD)
Sachertorte is a type of dense chocolate cake originally from Sacher Hotel, Austria. The cake here was very smooth and creamy. It slightly tasted like dark chocolate. I liked this one the most among all we tried.
Crunchy Chocolate Hazelnut Tart -Rs.160 (2.18 USD)
This one was smooth and creamy too. Not so crunchy as the name suggests though. But certainly, worth a try.
Cold Cheesecake – Rs.150 (2.04 USD)
This one was not anywhere close to a real cheesecake. But it did taste pretty good.
We spent the rest of the night at the beach. And here’s an unfortunate yet funny incident that happened. At around 12:30 am, we were quite bored and then decided to sip on some vodka. Just when my friend opens the bottle and is about to sip on it, a cop shows up outta nowhere. This man snatches the bottle and mentions how it is illegal to be drinking at the beach and walks off with our bottle. My friend tries to convince him to return the bottle to us stating he bought the bottle to add it to his collection and so the cop really just empties the vodka into his empty water bottle and returns the empty vodka bottle to us. Sigh what a sad experience that was..
We had planned to stay up at the beach all night as our train was scheduled early morning at 5:30 am. Midnight hunger got us to Le Café, which was supposed to be a 24x7 café at Promenade Beach. But sadly, it closed down at around 1 am right after we left. This place has an open seating area, hence offering a great sea-view. We had the Chicken Lasagne here along with some Coffee to keep us up. The lasagne was priced Rs.200 (2.73 USD) and it was beyondddd amazingggg. Full of cheese, this was one creamy lasagne. I’d certainly return to have this once more.
That was a cheesy end to the trip hehe. We had connecting trains to travel back to Mangalore. We boarded a train to Chennai Central Railway Station and took roughly 4 hours to get there. After a 2-hour wait, we boarded another and 16 hours later we were back in our city, Kudla.
That's all for today's post. I hope you liked it.
