Another treasure of Venice / Ще один скарб Венеції ( En / Ua )

in Worldmappin11 days ago

Hello everyone!
Yesterday I had a day off from work. I decided to make a short trip to Venice. The goal was to find and see with my own eyes the Contarini del Bovolo Palace. Milena's son told me about this palace. I was fascinated by the appearance of this palace, looking at photos on the Internet. I was especially impressed by the spiral staircase.
Venice contains so much beauty and charm, secrets and legends, hidden treasures and hidden corners that are waiting to be discovered!
One such hidden treasure is the Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo. According to historical facts, the palace was built in the 14th century. The wealthy Contarini family bought this palace, and at the end of the 1400s, Pietro Contarini planned to build a spiral staircase that would connect the two buildings of the palace. It was a very smart decision considering the lack of space in Venice. The stairs were laid in a large cylinder with open terraces. The height of the stairs is 26 meters and there are 80 steps made of Istrian stone. A beautiful observation deck has been built on the last floor of the stairs, from which you can admire the view of Venice. The staircase combines three styles. These are Renaissance, Gothic and Venetian - Byzantine styles.
Legend has it that the stairs were built for Pietro Contarini so that he could ride his horse to his bedroom on the top floor of the palace. The rich could afford such a whim.
I made a lot of effort to find this gem. There was no way google maps could lead me in the right direction. I walked in circles, winding my steps. There was even a thought to abandon this idea and return home. But then she stopped, calmed down and found the right way.
I did reach Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo through a narrow street. By the way, Bovolo is Italian for snail.
The ticket price is 8 euros. For this money, I climbed up the stairs and admired the view of houses and roofs from a height of 26 meters. It was worth it to get here.

Hi @rosanna-brava! This is @ninaeatshere. Thank you very much for posting in the Worldmappin Community!

From what you have told us this is a place that deserves a lot to visit, despite how complicated it can be to find it. In April this year I was briefly in Venice and I could tell how bad google maps works, I understand what you mean and I'm glad that in the end you did not give up and you found this amazing place. I wasn't lucky enough to visit it, I have to write it down along with many other places in the city that I would like to see, glad to discover that there is some Hivian near the area. Thanks for sharing your experience.
