Piazza San Marco in Venice

Hello everyone!

St. Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco) is the most famous and popular square in Venice. This is the only space in this city that has the name "piazza". It is also considered by many to be one of the most beautiful in the world. Having been there, I admit that it is indeed wonderful and very impressive.

Plac Świętego Marka (Piazza San Marco) to najbardziej znany i popularny plac w Wenecji. Jest to jedyna przestrzeń w tym mieście, która ma nazwę "piazza". Przez wielu jest również jednym z najpiękniejszych na świecie. Będąc tam, przyznaję, że jest rzeczywiście wspaniały i robi duże wrażenie.

Undoubtedly, what attracts the most attention in the square is the Basilica of St. Mark.

Niewątpliwie największą uwagę na placu przyciąga Bazylika św. Marka.

In the photo above and below you can see the northern facade, i.e. from Piazzetta dei Leoncini.

Na zdjęciu powyżej oraz poniżej widać fasadę północną, czyli z Piazzetta dei Leoncini.

Next to the basilica in Piazzetta dei Leoncini is the Patriarchal Palace (Il Palazzo Patriarcale), which is the seat of the diocesan curia of the Patriarchate of Venice.

Obok bazyliki przy Piazzetta dei Leoncini znajduje się Pałac Patriarchalny (Il Palazzo Patriarcale), który jest siedzibą kurii diecezjalnej Patriarchatu Wenecji.

Widok na fasadą zachodnią bazyliki, czyli główną widoczną z Placu Świętego Marka.

The width of the facade is 52 meters with five portals decorated with colorful mosaics. Above the central portal there are four quadriga horses.

Szerokość fasady to 52 metry z pięcioma portalami ozdobionymi barwnymi mozaikami. Nad środkowym portalem znajdują się cztery konie z kwadrygi.

There is a horizontal gallery above the portals, which is available to visitors.

Nad portalami znajduje się pozioma galeria, która dostępna jest dla zwiedzających.

On the northern side of the square there is a clock tower (Torre dell'Orologio) from the end of the 15th century.

Po stronie północnej placu znajduje się Wieża zegarowa (Torre dell'Orologio) z końcówki XV wieku.

Apart from the hours, the astronomical clock also shows the seasons, moon phases and the position of the sun in the zodiac signs. Above the clock there are: Madonna and Child, the winged Lion of St. Mark and at the very top two statues of Moors ringing a bell.

Zegar astronomiczny poza godzinami, pokazuje również pory roku, fazy księżyca oraz położenie słońca w znakach zodiaku. Nad zegarem znajdują się kolejno: Madonna z Dzieciątkiem, skrzydlaty Lew św. Marka oraz na samej górze dwa posągi Maurów uderzających w dzwon.

The Old Procuracy building on the northern side of the square from the 16th century. On the opposite side there is the building of the New Procuration from the 17th century. The buildings house various museums, cafes and shops.

Budynek Prokuracji Starej po północnej stronie placu z XVI wieku. Po przeciwnej stronie znajduje się budynek Prokuracji Nowej z XVII wieku. W budynkach znajdują się różne muzea, kawiarnie czy sklepy.

As can be seen in some of the photos, in addition to the crowds of tourists, there are also various barriers in the square that made it difficult to freely visit and take photos. Therefore, it would be nice to visit this place outside the summer tourist season.

Jak można zauważyć na niektórych zdjęciach, na placu poza tłumami turystów znajdują się również różne barierki, które utrudniały swobodne zwiedzanie i robienie zdjęć. Dlatego fajnie by było zwiedzić to miejsce poza letnim sezonem turystycznym.

Another building that stands out on the square is the Bell Tower of St. Campanile di San Marco brand. Its height is 98.6 meters. The current one was built at the beginning of the 20th century, because the previous medieval one collapsed in 1902. At the bottom of the photo on the right you can see a fragment of the New Prosecutor's Office building.

Kolejna budowla, która wyróżnia się na placu, to Dzwonnica św. Marka Campanile di San Marco. Jej wysokość to 98,6 metry. Obecna powstała w na początku XX wieku, ponieważ poprzednia średniowieczna zawaliła się w 1902 roku. Na dole zdjęcia po prawej stronie widać fragment budynku Prokuracji Nowej.

At the top of the tower there is a gilded statue of the archangel Gabriel.

Na szczycie wieży znajduje się pozłacany posąg archanioła Gabriela.
