Day in Montenegro (Igalo, Herceg Novi)

Today we visited the state of Montenegro and the coastal cities of Igalo and Herceg Novi.

Igalo is a small tourist town located on the Montenegrin coast of the Adriatic Sea, in the immediate vicinity of Herceg Novi.
It is known for its Mediterranean climate, medicinal sea mud and mineral springs, which is why it is a popular health resort and destination for those looking for recovery and relaxation.

The main attraction of Igalo is the "Dr. Simo Milošević" Institute, which is one of the most famous centers for rehabilitation and physical therapy in the region. The institute was founded in 1949 and offers various therapeutic treatments, including mud and mineral water therapies.

Igalo also has a long promenade along the sea, which connects this town with Herceg Novi. Along the coast there are numerous beaches, cafes, restaurants, and souvenir shops.

Here I saw a dog of the same breed as mine (it's a Jack Russell Terrier) and I had to take a photo of it. There are a lot of people with dogs here in the morning. 😀

The city is also known for its cultural events, especially during the summer season when music and theater festivals are organized.

The proximity to the border with Croatia, as well as good connections with Dubrovnik and other parts of Montenegro, makes Igalo easily accessible for tourists. In addition to health resorts, tourists also come to relax, sunbathe, and enjoy the clear sea and natural beauty of this area.

This is the beach where we swam. It is truly beautiful and you feel as if you are in a completely natural environment surrounded by rocks. Here we have already arrived in Herceg Novi, which you can reach along the coast from Igalo.

Herceg Novi is a city rich in history and culture. Herceg Novi is known for its Old Town, which has preserved numerous architectural and historical monuments.

Among them are the fortresses Kanli Kula, Forte Mare and Sat Kula, which date from different periods, from the Middle Ages to the Ottoman rule. Kanli Tower, for example, was a Turkish prison, and today it is a popular venue for concerts and theater performances.

Promenade Pet Danica is a long promenade that stretches along the coast from Igalo to Meljin, and is an ideal place for walking, running, or cycling. It is named after five partisan heroines from the Second World War, and there are numerous beaches, restaurants and cafes along it.

Herceg Novi hosts the traditional Mimosa Festival, which takes place every February and March. The festival celebrates the blooming of the mimosa, which symbolizes the arrival of spring. During the festival, various cultural events, carnival parades, musical concerts and gastronomic manifestations are organized.

Herceg Novi has a specific microclimate that enables the growth of exotic plants such as palm trees, eucalyptus and agave, which is why the city has a recognizable Mediterranean look. The city has more than 200 sunny days a year, which makes it ideal for rest and recreation.

The city is known for its rocky beaches and rocks that descend into the sea, and the most famous beach is Žanjice, which is located on the Luštica peninsula.

There are also numerous other beaches that are popular with locals and tourists alike. Herceg Novi is surrounded by beautiful nature, including nearby national parks such as Lovcen and Orjen. Mount Orjen, located above the city, is a popular hiking destination and offers spectacular views of the Bay of Kotor and the surrounding mountains.
