Stories from the road and the arrival in Cumuruxatiba | Brazil

in Pinmapple2 months ago (edited)

Leaving the beautiful mountainous landscapes of Minas Gerais and Espiríto Santo, we headed for the south of Bahia, more precisely to the town of Cumuruxatiba. If you missed the first posts on this journey by car through Brazil, I suggest you start with this one.

Life on the road is full of surprises and on this trip I learned that "the destination is the road". And that can apply to journeys and lives. These days on the road served to immerse me deeply in myself, in ways I didn't even think possible.

There's nothing more stimulating for me than seeing new places for the first time. I love looking at the little houses, observing people's lifestyles in the small towns we pass through... I feel like I'll never get tired of doing that. Especially when I'm traveling by car through Brazil, which is such a vast, plural and beautiful country.

Cumuruxatiba

After two full days of driving from our last destination (Iúna - Espírito Santo), we arrived in the south of Bahia. Arriving in Cumuruxatiba, we were greeted by the typical Bahian heat and also left behind the mild climate of the mountains. The first few days in Cumuru, as it is known to the locals, were full of sunshine and very high temperatures.

We stopped the trailer next to a friend's house and then the adventure really began, with a real immersion in the forest, since the land had a large cliff with preserved virgin forest at the back. The proximity of the village to the forest means that the capuchin monkeys are often spotted. In fact, they passed our camp every day. One of them, less shy and already named Chico by the locals, would often approach the camp, probably in search of some food to steal. Yes, despite being handsome and having a pretty face, they are professional thieves.

We were staying on the Rio do Peixe Pequeno beach, which is known for being very quiet, for having warm, clear waters and for having its landscape completely transformed according to the movement of the tides.

Low tide reveals the sandbanks on the beach and, at these times, you have to walk for many, many meters into the sea to reach a reasonable depth for swimming.

It was absurdly surreal to wake up every day with the sea in front of us and hear the tides singing. If I close my eyes, or look closely at those images, I can still hear it. And even smell the place!

My camera roll came back full of photos of our view from the campsite, which was the sea between the almond trees, taken at various times of the day. Each scene was magical.

This was my second time in Cumuru and I can say that each trip is a new journey. This place is really very special and I hope to talk more about its beaches in my next posts.
See you there!
