Christmas at Kirkcaldy Art Galleries 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, Museum and Memorial

Hello Hello Hivians

There is no greater feeling than a bustling community hub. Kirkcaldy has one such place, the War Memorial/museum/library and cafe.

They run classes and clubs meet there. And so it was I was there on Saturday at the last crochet club meeting of the year.

The location is very central and occupies a corner plot close to the town centre.

I do love our multitude of green spaces in Scottish towns.

Trees are wonderful and so are wooden sculptures like this one.

We have another wonderful old building on another corner. That is the Adam Smith theatre and the people are leaving the Saturday matinee of the local pantomime!

Then they traipsed through the gardens making it tricky to take pictures!

Here we see the building and in front of it is the memorial.

I love this metal bench, it is so poignant.

The building was actually built to accompany the war memorial.

It is not that long since Remembrance Sunday, so all the poppy wreaths are still in place.

Not sure if the universe was doing it's stuff but after seeing this wreath from the NHS (our National Health Service) I got a letter with an appointment for an MRI at 8am this Sunday morning.

I loved seeing these kids paying their respects.

Raith our local team were playing at home and they were on their way to the game.

Talking of football, it is always great seeing the wreath from the local supporters club of my team Rangers. We are 100% behind the Armed Forces and even have them doing a display around Remembrance Sunday each year.

And talking of kids, it was also great to see wreaths from our local high schools.

I find it incomprehensible that so many youngsters around the world have no idea of the World Wars.

To think this memorial was for the Great War, the war to end all wars or World War I (1914-1918)

I cannot imagine how 20 years later there was another World War.

Have our so called leaders not learnt from our past?

There is also the concrete space where services can be held.

The banner says MUSEUM and onthe building it says PUBLIC LIBRARY.

Before we go inside we shall walk around the building to it's backside!

The view is from the railway station and interestingly it shows we are looking at The Kirkcaldy Galleries.

Right let's get inside and as you can see it is all free.

You go through the doors and come face to face with ...

Yes the first Christmas tree which is in front of the library.

However to the left and through the doors is the cafe.

It is always busy which I think is a good sign!

The library had a cool Christmas tall houses scene, these always remind me of Amsterdam.

The library also had some festive books on display.

There was another wee tree in the gift shop.

And another on the reception desk, they were everywhere!

If you remember the building it was very long and to our left is a corridor to where we will end up!

With it's linen , linoleum and coalmines Kirkcaldy was a wonderful rich history.

Actually the upstairs of the building is more museums and galleries and that is the subject of other posts.

On the stairs bannisters there were Christmas stockings.

Do you have Christmas stockings?

You can see that they are crochet stockings.

It turns out that someone from the crochet club crocheted them all!

And then we were there...

Hooks and Balls were flying!

But they had brought festive munchies.

So of course, I helped myself!

No twisting of my arm needed!

But that is the last time I shall be at the memorial/museum/library and cafe until 2025!
