Hi dear Hive community!

Kiritpur is one of the big districts belonging to the capital city of Kathmandu. It was made on top of the hill which was important for kings to build in this strategic areas. The name of the city can be tranlated as the city of glory. Old city with many good remained houses from Newari people .ethinc group of Nepali people. was original start of nowadays mega capital. As we are interested in history, art and old architecture we decided to visit Kirtipur and see this not so touristic area.

The most famous attraction is old Bagh Bhairab Temple dedicated to angry tiger god called Bhairab. Temple rooftop holds on display many Gorkha army swords called kukuri. Some of them supposedly belonged to the king Prithvi Narayan Shah, who united Nepal. Besides that we spotted a very interesting thing that we haven't seen in any temple so far. The temple pillars were decorated with animal horns. We felt that some dark magic might be involved as it really looked creepy and create strange atmosphere. Our friend Bipin who accompanied us said that in this temple they also sacrifice animals, which is not so common in Hindu culture.

The more we followed the steep and very narrow roads, the more we got lost in the city life. People live very humbly and you mainly see old houses and buildings that are about to collapse soon.

Finally we reached the highest point of the city with the amazing view on the rest of Kathmandu, valley and surrounding hills. There awaited us another ancient site Chilancho Stupa. The place is quiet big and consists of many smaller stupas and statues. We even run into a couple who was having a pre-wedding photoshooting there.

If you enjoy eating meat, than we recommend that you stop at any of their restaurants. The Newari cousine is very special as it includes a lot of meat. They use all what they can get, so you might even find some exotic dishes from brains, eyes and up to spinal cord. We enjoy veggies too much, so we rather went home and make some nice food ourselves.

All the information we gave we either read on signboards or we heard from our friend who accompanied us.

Thank you for reading. Wish you a nice day!
