Rice Terraces in Banaue, Ifugao, Philippines

I forgot to include the Rice Terraces in Banaue in my Sagada and Baguio tour blog. I also stopped there to see this man-made rice field. It is also a tourist attraction site and many visitors come to see it. But the only thing I did here was enjoy the scenery from the terraces. The terraces were built by the ancestors of the people there in Ifugao. I couldn’t imagine how the early people carved this into the mountainside. There was no modern equipment to build them before. So whatever the methods or materials they used to construct this, they indeed created a remarkable feat and making it one of our cultural treasures. I really admire the ancient Ifugao people for building these magnificent rice terraces.

At the present time, only few people plant crops on the terraces because most of the locals there concentrate and rely on the revenue brought in by the tourists who visit their historic terraces. I believe that the new generation of Ifugao people is not into farming and they focus on tourism there instead or perhaps some are migrating to urban areas.
