Hi Everyone

Taking trains in Japan can be quite overwhelming. We have used mostly public transport this time in Japan as the kids are older and we have stayed in the same city all this time. We all have a travel card so you can top the card up and tap on the way in and out. The best part is the ticket can be used to buy things also so it is super convenient. Once you have your tickets sorted, the next hurdle is to find the correct platform and route for your destination.

It depends on where you are going, some trains can get there super slow and super quick so Google Maps could be your best friend. Though this is only halfway, when you get to the station, there are lots of colours on the floor, particularly for busy stations. In small stations like the one in the last picture, there are no colours, just plain concrete so it is easy to navigate, but ones like in Osaka station, there are many colours on the floor for a platform.

These colours let passengers line up for the train they want to get on from that platform. Therefore when you get to these platforms, be sure to check out the signs for which one to line up. It can be confusing at first but once you read it carefully, it all matches your desired destination.

The assuring thing is that many stations do have attendants who can speak basic English to get by and answer questions. Best to have Google translate ready if you have more questions to ask as the attendants could be very busy with the language barrier to give you 100% attention but most importantly have Google Maps ready as it does give you the correct platforms in most circumstances. You really can't avoid public transport in big cities in Japan so don't be overwhelmed, give yourself plenty of time to find your station/platform and you will have a fab time!

thanks for coming by. Japan is awesome!

Japan uses modern technology and especially on trains and train stations, these people understand the passengers in a very beautiful manner. I also wish to visit Japan and be passenger of these trains to travel.

they have a great system, it is very confusing at first but once you get used to it, it makes things so much easier

I have a question, will you pay the human translator a different fee to translate for you?
Japan is really nice, based on what you said on how convenient the tickets can be.
Asia is a place I’ll definitely visit in this life it’s just a matter of patience and time.
