Us3inCanada Summer Vacation - Day 2.1 - Whale Watching

During our summer vacations in Vancouver, we had the privilege of experiencing a “national geography” event: Whale Watching.

Since we started our day earlier, after our matinal walk at the Queen Elizabeth Park we headed ourselves to the Granville Island Market.

The place is huge, with lots of restaurants, local vendors, and tourist excursions.

Departing from the Granville Island Marina, we embark Salish Sea class catamaran which promises to be a thrilling 3- to 5-hour escapade, complete with expert guides who will tell us the secrets of the ocean.

It's a fully-guided tour to immersed in the world of whale and marine wildlife.

At 4 pm our boat launched, and the Pacific Ocean was all ours LOL.

The expectations were huge, the kids were anxious, and the guide was telling us histories about the sea life in the region.

Suddenly, so fast, a humpback whale appeared, we could only see its tail hitting the water. The adventure had begun!

The boat waited 15 minutes in case it would appear again, but nothing… So we went away.

We arrived at a bay, named Telegraph Cove, where 4 families of killer whales were at the “tea party”. According to the biologists on the tour, this is a rare phenomenon, where more than 2 orca families gather together to hunt.

Luck us, poor seals and sea lions… Each dive we could see less of them rising back.

The boat needed to be 200 ft away from the group.

Glad they took the pictures, and we brought our binoculars.

I can’t find enough words to describe this amazing experience. The pictures speak for themselves.

The value is expensive even for us in Canada, CA$ 189,00 per guest. Once in a lifetime tour LOL!

A aventura havia começado!

Sorte nossa, pobres focas e leões marinhos…
