Festival of sand sculptures - Burgas (Bulgaria)

in Worldmappin2 years ago (edited)

Hello travelers :)

During the past summer, I had the pleasure of visiting a series of very popular and extremely beautiful places in Bulgaria. Each one of these places is so interesting and unique in itself. For a long time I was faced with a dilemma and hesitated which one of them showed to you first. Definitely, all these destinations deserve your attention, and I will definitely make a series of posts for each one of them to show you in detail everything I was able to see this summer :).
I have a great desire to show you everything at once, but unfortunately this is impossible just in one single post :) .In the end, I just opened my laptop where I had stored all the photo material from my travels, and just randomly selected one of the many photo folders :).And so luck fell on the sand sculptures in the city of Burgas😁😁😁.

I'll start with a little background.
I had heard about this interesting sand's festival more several years ago.I have seen photos from there on the internet of other visitors, I have seen reports on TV related to this festival and I really wanted to visit this place one day.

In the middle of August, I was on a one-week holiday on the southern Black Sea coast, and specifically in the city of Sozopol. After the end of my holiday, on my way home I had decided to stop by the city of Burgas where definitely i must visit the sand sculptures.
My sister has been living and working in Burgas for about 10 years. After we arrived in the city, I first visited her for a short time to see each other. She knows the city of Burgas very well, and while we were drinking coffee, I received instructions from her on the easiest way to get to the park with the sand sculptures. It turned out that the place is very close, about 10 minutes away by car.

I will clarify that the place where they are located is known as "Lake" park and is very close of Burgas horse base.Impatiently, I head there and, after a short drive in the heavy traffic of Burgas, I arrive at "Lake" park. I leave my car in a guarded parking lot, which is located in the immediate vicinity

From here, it takes less than 2 minutes along the promenade to reach the sand sculptures.

There is a barrier and a checkpoint on site where you have to pay an entrance fee. The ticket price is BGN 4 for adults, BGN 2 for children from 7 to 18 years old, and free for the disadvantaged person and children under 7 years old. After paying my fee I eagerly go inside to look around.😁.

I was actually expecting to see something on a much larger scale as a territory.

However, it turned out that the sculptures were built and concentrated on a rather small area of only a few acres. You can easily go around everything in no more than 15 minutes. 😁

The sculptures themselves are huge, majestic, and very impressive.

Every year, the organizers change the theme of the sand festival. The theme is always original, and it is always interesting and attractive for both children and adults.

This year's theme is "Jurassic World Domination"

Around you will see huge sand dinosaurs, and other prehistoric animals, masterfully made of tons of sand.

The first edition of the festival began in 2008. Not only Bulgarians, but also many artists from different countries participate in the creation of the sand figures.

In front of each of the twelve sculptures there is an information board with the names of the artists who created it.

It strikes me that I only see the names of talented Bulgarian sculptors here.

I strongly recommend to everyone who has a way to Burgas and has the opportunity , to stop by "Lake" park and see this sandy beauty with their own eyes. All this pleasure, friends, will take no more than 15-20 minutes of your time. And if you are a lover of strong sensations, the Burgas equestrian center, which I have already mentioned, is located next door. You can also try horse riding and many others pleasures there.Only about 50 meters from the sand sculptures, you can also find a terrarium in which many exotic birds and animals from all over the world are exhibited.Unfortunately, I didn't have time for the terrarium and the horse base, because I had a long way to go home.Maybe the next time I visit Burgas again, I will find time to visit them too😁.

That's all for today friends. I hope that you will like the post and find it interesting :) I wish everyone a light and peaceful evening!
