This year, with my friends we visited the highest village (with an altitude of 1550 to 1650 m) not only in our homeland Bulgaria, but also on the Balkan Peninsula.
The village is called Ortsevo and takes its name from the word "hortse". It is said that in ancient times among the local people in the village, there were very good dancers who played some of the most beautiful people.
The village is located in Southwestern Bulgaria in the Rhodope Mountains. My friends and I were in the area on our bicycles and had already visited the Veliitsa shelter and Veliitsa peak located in the area.
We entered the village descending with our bicycles from Veliitsa shelter on a dirt road.
Approaching the village, the views became more and more beautiful. In some places we had to stop the bicycles and enjoy the views that opened up to Pirin mountain.
Descending and ascending, we traversed country paths. We could see the houses and yards of the local people perched on the mountain slopes.
We also saw guest houses that are famous for the hospitality of their hosts.
In the center of the village there is a stone fountain and a gazebo. The school building is abandoned and I understand from the locals that the children travel by bus to the neighboring village Babyak.
We visited the well-known in the village "Musa's Ortsevo Village bar".
There we met Musa Gulit - one of the main people in the village who take care of its promotion and development. Thanks to his idea (together with his like-minded person), the construction of the Veliitsa shelter was carried out.
Musa welcomed us very hospitably and we spent some time in his company with him with interest and pleasure.
We continued our bike ride around the village.
We saw more stone fountains and winding paths.
Herbs smelled from the slopes. Somewhere in the distance, people were preparing winter food.
I could see huge stacks of hay covered with patterned blankets. I wanted to get closer and see them up close. And the views as a backdrop were stunning.
We kept riding the bikes.
We wanted to visit more places.
Аccording to information the village of Ortsevo is about 15 hamlets, but there was no way in the time we had to go everywhere.
The clouds were getting darker and thunder could be heard in the distance. A storm was coming. We had to go back.
