Hola amigos mochileros, excursionistas y turistas, como están?
Estoy de nuevo por acá con ustedes y esta vez para mostrarles un poco sobre Salento, que es un pueblo del eje cafetero Colombiano muy turístico y muy concurrido debido a que acá es donde se ubica el Valle de Cocora, justo a unos kilómetros del pueblo. Este al igual que otros pueblos de la zona comparten la misma arquitectura colonial antigua muy bonita y con colores muy llamativos.
Salento es muy pequeño pero la mayoría de su turismo se concentra en el centro, en la plaza Bolívar, donde se encuentran gran cantidad de los comercios, desde acá parten los Jeep Willys al Valle, esta la iglesia y otros locales. El día que fui el acceso por vehículo a la plaza estaba limitado debido a una competencia de niños, ya que estaban celebrando las fiestas de Salento que ocurren entre el 2 y el 10 de Enero, por que el 5 de Enero de 1842 se fundo este municipio.
Tuvimos que dejar la moto en un parqueadero no muy atractivo a la vista y caminar hasta la plaza, para tomar algunas fotografías, desayunar y recorrer una pequeña parte del pueblo.

Hello backpackers, hikers and tourists, how are you?
I'm here with you again and this time to show you a little bit about Salento, which is a very touristic and very busy town in the Colombian coffee region due to the fact that this is where the Cocora Valley is located, just a few kilometres away from the town. This, as well as other towns in the area, share the same beautiful and colourful old colonial architecture.
Salento is very small but most of the tourism is concentrated in the centre, in the Plaza Bolivar, where most of the shops are located, from where the Willys Jeeps leave to the valley, the church and other places. The day I went there the access to the square was limited due to a children's competition, as they were celebrating the Salento festivities which take place between the 2nd and 10th of January, because this municipality was founded on the 5th of January 1842.
We had to leave the motorbike in a not very attractive car park and walk to the square to take some pictures, have breakfast and walk around a small part of the town.
Estando en la plaza ya podiamos ver como estaba muy limitado el acceso, además fuimos el 03 de Enero y apenas estaban comenzando las fiestas, habían toldos de venta de aguardiente, dulces, hidratación y otros productos, por eso se veía tan lleno y no había como mucho espacio para caminar.
Acá se encuentra la plaza central, farmacias, restaurantes, la estación de policía y lo curioso es que todas las casas comparten el mismo diseño colonial y sinceramente desconozco si este diseño fue introducido por los Españoles hace 200 años atrás en la época de Colonización, en otros pueblos como Filandia me habían dicho que si, pero hay personas de la tercera edad que aseguran que estos diseños fueron modificados con el pasar de los años.
Sin embargo una de las casas aun mantenía su diseño antiguo y se veía como las paredes aun eran de barro.
La iglesia tiene su historia, nos comentaron que fue construida en el año 1850, es una de las mas antiguas en cuanto a construcción, sin embargo hubieron terremotos y tuvieron que remodelarla, además de sufrir un incendio, también me dieron a entender que esta hecha de madera y una que no es común para la construcción, y el diseño es una mezcla entre Español y Colombiano debido a su remodelación.
When we were in the square we could already see that the access was very limited, besides we went there on January 3rd and the festivities were just starting, there were awnings selling aguardiente, sweets, hydration and other products, that's why it was so crowded and there wasn't much space to walk around.
Here you can find the central square, pharmacies, restaurants, the police station and the curious thing is that all the houses share the same colonial design and I honestly do not know if this design was introduced by the Spanish 200 years ago at the time of colonization, in other towns like Filandia I had been told that yes, but there are elderly people who claim that these designs were modified over the years.
However, one of the houses still maintained its old design and one could see how the walls were still made of mud.
The church has its history, we were told that it was built in 1850, it is one of the oldest in terms of construction, however there were earthquakes and had to remodel it, as well as suffering a fire, I was also given to understand that it is made of wood and one that is not common for construction, and the design is a mixture of Spanish and Colombian due to its remodeling.

Bueno ahora la primera parada turística vendría siendo la iglesia, ya que dentro de ella tiene un museo que cuenta con objetos muy antiguos que datan de unos 60-80 años atrás, además de lo interesante que es escuchar la historia. La estructura original era muy distinta, incluso llego a tener dos torres hasta que el terremoto acabo con esa estructura y tuvieron que reconstruirla de nuevo con una sola torre.
No solo eso, si no que también sufrió un incendio que arraso con así todo excepto la estructura.
Esta iglesia se amplio un poco desde su construcción, aun se conservan puertas y paredes viejas, y esta conectada al casa parroquial, una parte de esta casa sirve de museo donde exhiben imágenes religiosas que datan de 100 años, también los objetos que ya mencione como maquinas de coser, lamparas, maquinas de escribir y planchas de ropa, también hay restos de lo que quedo del incendio.
Well now the first tourist stop would be the church, because inside it there is a museum with very old objects that date from 60-80 years ago, besides it is very interesting to listen to the history. Not only that, but it also suffered a fire that destroyed everything except the structure.
This church has been extended a little since its construction, there are still old doors and walls, and it is connected to the parish house, a part of this house is used as a museum where religious images dating back 100 years are exhibited, as well as the objects I mentioned before such as sewing machines, lamps, typewriters and clothes irons, there are also remains of what was left from the fire.
Ahora caminando un poco mas nos vamos a la Calle Real, que seria una segunda parada turística ya que en esta calle se encuentran locales que venden artesanía, joyas, comida, hay restaurantes de todo un poco, en ambos lados de la calle hay locales y pues es también la calle que te lleva al mirador. Al ser muy temprano y estar de fiestas no vimos muchos locales abiertos, además que mi compañera solo entro a algunos para ver las artesanías.
No es muy atractivo que se diga sin embargo es algo que visitar si pasas por el pueblo, no voy a negar que los colores de las casa son increíbles.
Now walking a little further we went to the Calle Real, which would be a second tourist stop, as in this street there are shops selling handicrafts, jewellery, food, there are restaurants on both sides of the street and it is also the street that takes you to the lookout point. As it was very early in the morning and it was the holiday season, we didn't see many shops open, and my companion only went into some of them to look at the handicrafts.
It is not very attractive to say the least but it is something to visit if you pass through the town, I will not deny that the colours of the houses are incredible.
Tercera parada rápida fue hacia el mirador, que esta al final de la Calle Real, allí comienzas a subir una cantidad de escalones y la verdad no esta nada fácil, en semana santa esto representa la caminata de Jesús, tiene paradores que representan cada fase (Viacrucis). En lo mas alto se puede ver el pueblo de Salento y hay una caminata hacia el bosque también, pero toma mucho tiempo y nosotros no la hicimos.
Nos fuimos directamente al mirador del Valle de Cocora, desde acá se ve todo el valle en su máximo esplendor, y por el alquiler de telescopios podemos ver el rio Quindío, el Nevado del Ruiz y otras cosas.
En este lugar también venden artesanías, hay restaurantes y mirador-restaurante que es un lugar donde hay objetos emblemáticos donde nos podemos tomar fotografías, pero la entrada cuesta dinero.
Acá también podemos ver el mismo diseño de estructura de casas, no varia mucho y siguen siendo coloridas, y al bajar no volvemos por el camino de escaleras, si no por una calle muy inclinada.
Third quick stop was to the viewpoint, which is at the end of the Calle Real, there you start to climb a number of steps and the truth is not easy, in holy week this represents the walk of Jesus, it has stops that represent each phase (Viacrucis). At the top you can see the town of Salento and there is a walk into the forest as well, but it takes a long time and we didn't do it.
We went directly to the viewpoint of the Cocora Valley, from here you can see the whole valley in its maximum splendour, and by renting telescopes you can see the river Quindío, the Nevado del Ruiz and other things.
In this place they also sell handicrafts, there are restaurants and a viewpoint-restaurant which is a place where there are emblematic objects where we can take pictures, but the entrance costs money.
Here we can also see the same design of the structure of the houses, it doesn't vary much and they are still colourful, and when we go down we don't return by the stairs, but by a very steep street.
También olvide mencionar que acá el clima es de 20°C en promedio pero el sol es realmente intenso, no se el por que pero es necesario llevar mucha agua, en esta subida al mirador pare 3 veces por que sinceramente estaba muy cansado y me imagino que se debe un poco a la altitud.
I also forgot to mention that here the weather is 20°C on average but the sun is really intense, I don't know why but it is necessary to carry a lot of water, in this climb to the viewpoint I stopped 3 times because I was really tired and I imagine that it is due to the altitude.
Como dije antes ya desde acá solamente bajamos y nos fuimos a nuestro destino final que era el Valle de Cocora, solo tome algunas fotos extra de las calles, edificios del pueblo y de los restaurantes. Además de estar un rato en el mirador y comer un helado de paila (hecho artesanal).
Sin embargo aunque nosotros solo estuvimos en estos 3 sitios, hay otros lugares mas interesantes para los que se quedan en hoteles.
El puente del Amparo es una construcción de hace 100 años donde pasaba el ferrocarril, aun esta en pie y se puede visitar, además del Eco el Mirador que es la caminata que mencione, donde se accede al final de llegar al mirador, y hay cafés tour donde varios locales ofrecen llevar a los turistas a fincas de café para explicarles todo el proceso del café.
As I said before, from here we just went down and went to our final destination which was the Cocora Valley, I just took some extra pictures of the streets, buildings of the village and the restaurants. We also spent some time at the viewpoint and had a paila ice cream (handmade).
However, although we only visited these 3 places, there are other more interesting places for those staying in hotels.
The Amparo bridge is a construction from 100 years ago where the railway used to pass, it is still standing and can be visited, as well as the Eco el Mirador which is the walk I mentioned, where you get to the end of reaching the viewpoint, and there are coffee tours where several locals offer to take tourists to coffee farms to explain the whole coffee process.
Salento es un lugar bonito que vale la pena conocer, pero hay que tener el tiempo suficiente para caminar por todos los alrededores y sitios turísticos. Por ahora me despido y nos vemos en la próxima, acá les dejo lo siguiente que hicimos después de esto, que fue visitar el Valle de Cocora y fue mi anterior post.
Salento is a beautiful place worth visiting, but you have to have enough time to walk around all the surrounding areas and tourist sites. For now I say goodbye and see you next time, here is the next thing we did after this, which was to visit the Cocora Valley and it was my previous post.

¡Qué bello Salentooo! Me encanta como se ven los colores de las fachadas y los puestos artesanos y de comida intercalados. Voy a sonar un poco tonta pero se parece mucho a los paisajes que salen en la serie de Café con aroma de mujer, imagino que todas las localidades aledañas son muy parecidas.
Vaya caminata hicieron, entiendo por qué comentas que hay mas rutas para los que se quedan a pasar la noche, es cosa de un fin de semana largo seguramente, poder conocer todos los rincones.
Voy tomando notas del recorrido, está muy lindo como recomendación.
Noo para nada tonta, yo también vi esa telenovela 😂😂 es Colombiana y esta inspirada en el eje cafetero, todos esos paisajes son de pueblitos así, entre Caldas-Risaralda y Quindío, todos los pueblitos se parecen en si en la arquitectura, además que el nombre es por que irónicamente el café cuando esta en su floración suelta un aroma super agradable y por eso hicieron esa semejanza.
Por su puesto hay muchas rutas para visitar y eso toma mas de un día, yo solo tuve hora para recorrer una pequeña parte.

Oye que interesante, pensaba que era un invento de la tele y resulta que tiene un significado real. Ahora me parece menos cursi y más hermoso jajaja.
