Hello friends,

Foça was the last stop on our return journey. Foça is a coastal town closer to İzmir than Balıkesir. It would be more correct to say that Foça is a coastal town famous for its fish, ice cream and bays. Though we stopped by while passing by. We ate our fish and ice creams, toured around a bit and set off for Izmir.

Imagine a V-shaped coastline and imagine restaurants and cafes around the entire shoreline. In addition, fishing boats and tour boats are anchored on the V-shaped coastline. Fishermen can directly sell the fish they keep fresh. This is actually a very good thing. Someone like fresh fish? In Foça, you can eat fish anywhere with peace of mind. Because everyone does it well. Although waiting in a queue to eat ice cream is boring, I strongly recommend you to eat it.

One of the most visually striking things in Foça is the windmills at the entrance of this old coastal town and the old Foça city walls on the coast. I would like to share information about the city walls as much as I can translate from the Turkish source written there on the sign: There are four towers on the walls. It was determined that the triangular prism-shaped tower next to the Harbor Sanctuary belonging to the Goddess Cybele belonged to the Genoese, while the other 3 towers were built during the Ottoman period. These walls were first built in BC. Considering that it was built around 590, it can be said to be 2600 years old. Inclusion of Foça Castle in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Temporary List in 2013 was a major turning point for Foça.

Apart from that, the most striking thing in Foça is the old Greek houses and narrow streets. These are the perfect places for those who really like to take pictures. We even came across a newly married couple taking a wedding photo while traveling.
