What’s Up Chong! Two weeks ago I had an opportunity to be a part of the production team for Red Ollero’s Comedy Special called: A very special Valentine’s day special comedy show, check the video.
The call time was 3:30 in the afternoon so instead of bringing car and get stuck in traffic, I just used a rider app, similar to uber but they’re using a motorbike. Do you have this in your country?
I arrive at the venue one hour early, changed clothes and went straight to Music Museum Theatre located in Green Hills, San Juan in Manila. It was my first time to usher and be in the theatre and I had the chance to roam around and go in the center stage, and wait for instruction from them the boss (Red).
Around 7:00 PM, the audience was coming in all at the same time, that was the only chaotic time since we had to scan ticket QR code one by one, after that, there is nothing else to do but to watch the show, and after assist the fans for taking pictures with the performers during the post-show.
The Head liner
Red Ollero is one of the Veteran local comedians in the Philippines, last year he had a Netflix special called: Mabuhay is a Lie. For someone like me (a Newbie) in the scene, one of the things that I need to learn from vets such as him.
From producing shows, handling a production team, promoting shows, creating the comedian line up, booking shows on a bigger stage, and lastly, learning from all the seasoned comedians how they handle their time on stage, how they deliver their joke bit, and creating funnier premises and punchlines.
The Openers of the show
Each opener did their 10-minute set before Red, the comedians below have been doing the standup comedy 5-10 years now, so I, as a student of the craft, aside from watching them as a fan, I was also studying their act and bits, learning from them pros, and hopefully soon I would be able to join them in the big stage!

The comedians above have different approaches with their material, self-deprecating, Point of view of their lives, government, Dark humor, LGBTQAI+, but over all they were killing it! Unfortunately, I can't share the material they use, so they can still use it in other shows they would have.
We aim to grow the stand up comedy scene in the Philippines bigger and bigger, gathering fans and having more comedians, I hope that everyone can support our movement, and hopefully everyone can appreciate the form of art that we have, and hopefully bring the performance in your location!
