A Day in The Life of a Recalcitrant Four-Year-old.

in Comedy Open Miclast year

Fireworks and firecrackers (knockouts) are used during festive seasons. Everyone is happy, lighting up the skies or creating noise with the firecrackers but not me. Definitely not me.

Don't get me wrong, I love fireworks and all but I guess the fireworks didn't love me in return or maybe I was just so unlucky.

When I was younger, we were never allowed to light up firecrackers during festive seasons. Why?! We could hear the sounds of firecrackers from the streets and all we wanted to do was recreate the sound too. But my dad's clear instruction was "I don't want to see any of you close to a firecracker". In my mind I was like " this man is no fun at all" but I still obeyed the instruction either way.

It was December, time for the Christmas celebration. On a very cold morning, my brothers came into our room(I and my sister's ) to inform us that they had somehow bought firecrackers without our parents finding out (sly humans 😅). We all snuck out of the house to the backyard to light up the firecrackers.

Excitement filled the cold air as we took turns to light the firecrackers. My brothers did their own and it made the sound. We giggled happily and it was my turn.

Let it be known that I wasn't given any prior warning as to how dangerous a firecracker could be in your hands.

I tried to light the match stick but the breeze kept blowing it off. After so much trial and error, I finally lit it and put it at the button of the knockout, just the way I was instructed by the box the knockouts came in. I threw it away and waited for two minutes, no sound. I tried the process over again and still no sound. By the third trial I was furious.

Firecracker still in my hand, I turned to tell my brothers that the knockout was fake because it didn't make any sound. As my brothers were approaching to check if what I said was right, the firecracker went off in my hands. Reflexes led me to throw it off immediately but I guess I was too late.

You know those times in the cartoon "Tom and Jerry" when Tom is tied to fireworks and he reaches the skies? I reached the skies and touched the clouds that morning. I didn't even hear the sound that the firecracker made, the only thing I could hear was a loud ring in my ears. My siblings were talking but I didn't hear nada. My vision was foggy as the smoke from the fire cracker covered everywhere. Why me!!

For a minute, my siblings thought I was dead because of the way I laid on the floor. A few minutes later, I regained consciousness and I was taken straight to my bedroom. You must be wondering why I wasn't taken to my parents for proper assessment?

Hehehe,We had gotten into a whole lot of trouble already for that week and a deaf child wasn't something my parents would be happy to see.

Good thing I didn't go deaf in the end. I could hear perfectly the next day but the ringing continued for a while just to remind me of my recalcitrance, but not anymore. From that day till today, I've avoided firecrackers like a plague. We're two parallel lines. I love to see it, I love to hear it but I never get close to it. Like they say, some lessons are best learnt individually.

With love, wongi ✨

Oh my... That is scary! I'm glad it wasn't worst. There were people who lost their fingers while doing the same thing you did, re-lighting a firecracker that failed at first or how many attempts.

It's ignorance that was the cause of my situation. I'm just happy that the aftermath wasn't permanent.

Thank you so much for stopping by gurll, I really appreciate ❣️✨

I bet you were curious as well to experience it and glad it didn't end too bad.

Whatever the reason I think fire or those things need fire it's not a matter of joke. Little little incident can we very dangerous in that case and I have witness of various accident related with it. It's better to stay in safe side..

So I guess you too don't like firecrackers?

I guess you too don't like firecrackers?

Not like that. I like it but I try to avoid it because it's risky besides it not good for environment.

Not like that. I like it but I try to avoid it

Then that makes the two of us.

I didn't know about the environment part tho. Thanks for the heads-up.

Glad to hear you came out okay..... knockouts were always fun in my area until they started fighting with it.... Crossover nights now have a different meaning for me

Things have really changed overtime. Thanks for stopping by ✨

All she heard was wiiiiiiiiiiiiing😂😂😂😂

We do fireworks war in my side...
Might fun 😂😂😂✨

Exactly... Wiiii was the sound😂. It's like you've experienced it before.

We do fireworks war in my side...

You people like rough play oo

It's mighty fun 😂😂😂

I digress 🌝

😂😂😂😂😂
This is why buhari banned firecrackers

I remember when I was a kid
During Christmas, firecrackers were the main event

If you didn't have firecrackers, it wasn't Christmas

Even though our parents didn't approve, we smuggled firecrackers more effectively than drug lords

It's a wonder how we didn't sustain more injuries 😂😂😂

we smuggled firecrackers more effectively than drug lords

I think it's smuggling firecrackers that was the beginning of our criminal minds that year 😂

It's a wonder how we didn't sustain more injuries 😂😂😂

Little wonder. It seems like you guys got a proper tutorial on how to use them 😂

And we have small small children that hold bangers in their hands and watch them blow till the last round.

It's the ajeboic trait that made you to went off🥱

Just maybe you're right😅

Maybe
I'm right 💯

😅😅

Firecrackers surely have some elements of risk associated with them. And it is usually kids that are fond of them. I have seen them hurt adults as well so anyone looking to play with them should do so cautiously.

My dear, it's best to heed to our parents advice. Thank God you didn't sustain any everlasting injury from the firecracker. Do you know it spoiled my uncle's eyes till date! I hate it with passion

Do you know it spoiled my uncle's eyes till date!

Wait, what? He took it close to his eyes?

O gosh! Not a fun of firecrackers, really. In my home country people doesn't really use them that much apart from new years.
But day after New Years eve - ER's are just packed with accidents because of firecrackers misuse. I am glad you are ok, though!
I would leave that 'fun' to the professional pyrotechnicians :)

I would leave that 'fun' to the professional pyrotechnicians :)

That's what I have done all these years. I can't risk it any more😅

I would say, that better to keep all 10 fingers 🤣

A very wise decision 😅

We played with plenty of firecrackers around here, and I have a similar story to share!

Because I am a very quiet person, I have a tendency to scare and startle the people I live with. Not on purpose, they just can't hear me moving around, so they get startled if they see me in the kitchen when they thought I was still in my room.

Even though I don't do this on purpose, people are always trying to 'get back' at me by scaring me. They have to try extra hard, because I don't startle easily. One time, shortly after my high school graduation, my stepfather and brothers conspired to give me a good scare. My brothers called me into the garage, and stepfather was waiting to toss a whole pack of firecrackers my way! I heard and saw the sparks of the fuse coming my way and dodged, but when I did, the whole pack of lit firecrackers got tangled in my hair! When those firecrackers started popping off in my hair, I thought for sure I was going to die from the noise and smoke!

Needless to say, I was VERY scared, and startled, and more than a little angry! My whole family was still apologizing when I could finally hear again! They were all so scared about how wrong their prank had gone, they couldn't even enjoy their victory 🤣

Stealth mode: that's what I call moving around without being heard😅.

Fire crackers in your hair?! Now that's the proper definition of prank gone wrong. That moment after the noise from the fire crackers when everything just stands still and you're just numb.

Did it cause any permanent damage tho?

Nah, just messed up my hair, and left my ears ringing for a couple days. My hair grew back, and I can still hear better than most people.

I definitely would not sign up to go through that again, though! It was one of the most terrifying moments of my life, and I've had more than a handful of terrifying experiences!

My hair grew back
So you were bald for like two weeks?😃

It was one of the most terrifying moments of my life, and I've had more than a handful of terrifying experiences!

I can only imagine how you felt. Probably thinking that you're going to die the next minute while still struggling to get the firecrackers out of your hair...

Not totally bald, just very... punk rock. They gave me a very haphazard haircut just below the neck. 😂

As I tried getting them out of my hair, they were popping against my fingers, which felt like getting my hands struck with a cane. It makes for a great story now, but at the time, NOBODY was laughing!

They gave me a very haphazard haircut just below the neck. 😂

Oh no 😂 😂

they were popping against my fingers, which felt like getting my hands struck with a cane.

This story keeps getting worse😅. No wonder they were apologizing so much.
