Учора, йдучи через Софіївську площу до свого офісу, мою увагу привернула 3D-конструкція історико-архітектурної пам’ятки Софійського собору. Не те, щоб я її раніше не бачила. Просто востаннє я тут проходила в березні 2022.

Yesterday, walking through Sophia Square to my office, my attention was drawn to the 3D construction of the historical and architectural monument of Saint Sophia Cathedral (Kyiv). Not that I haven't seen it before. It's just that the last time I was here was in March 2022.

На початку цієї війни я часто думала про нашу Софію — Храм Мудрості, про її велич, історію і, зокрема, про те, як нам її вберегти від російських ракетних обстрілів, що калічили й травмували нашу столицю навесні.

At the beginning of this war, I often thought about our Sophia — the Temple of Wisdom, about its greatness, history, and, in particular, about how we could protect it from the Russian rocket attacks that crippled and traumatized Ukrainian capital in this spring.

Ця 3D модель архітектурного ансамблю Софіївського собору була установлена біля Національного заповідника «Софія Київська» ще у вересні 2020 року. Особливість цієї моделі у тому, що вона оснащена рельєфною тактильною табличкою, яка виконанана шрифтом Брайля. Власне, рельєфна модель пам’ятки дає змогу людям з вадами зору «побачити» її руками.

This 3D model of the architectural ensemble of St. Sophia's Cathedral was installed near the "Sophia of Kyiv" National Reserve back in September 2020. The peculiarity of this model is that it is equipped with a relief tactile plate, which is made in Braille. In fact, the relief model of the landmark allows visually impaired people to "see" it with their hands.

І саме ця табличка мене спонукала замислитися, зокрема, над тим, як люди з обмеженими можливостями живуть в реаліях цієї війни. Ті, хто не бачать, не чують, не здатні самостійно рухатися, адже серед них є і діти. Як вони реагують на сигнал "Повітряна тривога", чи хтось допоможе їм у разі екстреної евакуації. Я загалом так багато стала думати про інших, про потреби інших, про допомогу ближньому, про наш Універсум в цілому, відколи почалася повномасштабна війна.

It was this plate that prompted me to think, in particular, about how people with disabilities live in the realities of this war. Those who can't see, can't hear, can't move on their own. How do they respond to air alarm signal, or will someone help them in an emergency evacuation? I've generally started thinking so much about others, about the needs of others, about helping others, about our Universe as a whole, since the full-scale war began.

Війна — жахлива річ, руйнівна стихія, яка безжально змітає все на своєму шляху. Але, водночас, в умовах війни перед багатьма нами відкривається новий шлях — шлях до найкращої версії самих себе. Бо ми змінюємося, стаючи максимально чуйними, щирими, співчутливими, зрештою, стаємо істинними носіями християнських цінностей. Бо саме зараз ми виявляємо найвищу Любов: до свого ближнього, до своєї рідної землі, цивілізованого людства, Всесвіту. І ця Любов жертовна, бо заради миру й життя інших ми безстрашно йдемо у бій, і багато хто з українців востаннє.

The war is a terrible thing, a destructive element that ruthlessly sweeps away everything in its path. But, at the same time, in the conditions of war, a new path opens up for many of us — the path to the best version of ourselves. Because we change, becoming as sensitive, sincere, compassionate as possible, in the end, we become true bearers of Christian values. Because right now we show the highest Love: to our neighbor, to our native land, to civilized humanity, to the Universe. This Love is sacrificial, because for the sake of peace and the lives of others we fearlessly go into battle, and many Ukrainians for the last time.

Мені здається, що ось це наше "нове народження" дає нам сили й волю так гідно чинити опір найбільшому Злу на світі, яке втілює в собі нинішня Росія. Нею керують дві руйнівні емоції: Ненависть і Байдужість. Живучи лише цими емоціями, людина втрачає в собі душу і морально "загниває", тим самим впускаючи в себе моторошну темряву і абсолютно порожнечу. Тож нинішня Росія — це морок. Україна ж є Дух, який безсмертний, бо Дух — це Світло. А Світло — це одвічний предвісник Світанку.

It seems to me that this is our "new birth" that gives us the strength and will to so worthily resist the greatest Evil in the world, which today's Russia embodies. Russia is governed by two destructive emotions: Hate and Indifference. Living only with these emotions, a person loses his soul and morally "rots", thereby letting into himself a terrible darkness and absolute emptiness. So today's Russia is Darkness. Ukraine is Spirit, which is immortal, because Spirit is Light. And Light is the eternal harbinger of Dawn.

А ще Дух — це Софія, Мудрість, яку отримують лише ті, хто здатні любити. Тому вже тисячу років поспіль Софія Київська з нами, а ми з нею. І так буде завжди. Бо Мудрість — це Святість, яка підвладна найвищому Розуму. Тож, подивившись на високу дзвіницю нашого Величного багатолітнього Храму, я відчула якусь неймовірну силу, яка додала мені впевненості і відчуття того, що ми Переможемо. "Борітеся — поборите. Вам Бог помагає". І я в цьому не сумніваюся.

The Spirit is Sophia, Wisdom, which only those who are able to love receive. Therefore, for a thousand years Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv is with us, and we are with it. And so it will always be. For Wisdom is Holiness, which is subject to the highest Reason. So, looking at the high bell tower of our Great, long-standing Temple, I felt some incredible power, which gave me confidence and a feeling that we will Win. As our poet-messiah Taras Shevchenko said: "Fight — you will prevail, God is helping you." I have no doubt about that.

On December 12, 1990, the architectural ensemble of St. Sophia's Cathedral in Kyiv was recognized as a universal value of a cultural object that must be preserved for the benefit of all mankind. It became the first from Ukraine on the UNESCO list (World Heritage Site No. 527).
