Bye bye second year of primary school!

I had no doubt in my mind that my daughter would pass her second year in primary school but I was a bit nervous about some of her grades as she had troubles getting her tables right. Although she definitely has my maths brain and gets things quite rapidly, while getting high grades, when the tables arrived, we had nothing but struggles about it. It became a true issue in the house and I already felt that she would get a lower grade than normally, which would probably still be a killer grade imo, but that aside.

I'm so relieved

That after the first months of struggle in the first class, she picked up quite well once she had her own tutor to help her get through all the homework as well as prepping for exams. I'm aware I mentioned her amazing tutor many times now but I'm just so extremely grateful that she came into our lives, I feel so much gratitude as she's literally made our daughter confident that she can get through this and now she's in the top of her class.

We never expected this to happen, and we will be happy if she does what she can and never hold it against her if she doesn't understand something due to the language barrier for example. But this girl is kicking ass and it's so cool to see!

Hospital visit

This morning we went to the hospital in the city as my back pains have gotten worse last week and I can not function when I take an extra doses of my pain medication. I needed to discuss this with a doctor to change something as I'm not going to keep this going for much longer. On top of it, I worry if something is changed in my back or gotten worse so I hoped for a scan to check the status.

I was advised to take another medication twice a day for the pain, which I had not tried yet as I thought taking them would cause heart palpitations while this doctor told me these would not cause that. Although I only had one day to count as improvement so far, I'm hopeful this will be better for me. We came back home and first had breakfast together to then head to the pool.

Waiting for the report

I totally forgot that today the reports would come online so I told my daughter to get ready for the pool but wait 20 more minutes so that I could download her grades first. I'm happy I waited because it was a surprise I didn't see coming. Even though her maths grade went down from 9 to 8, which is still amazing btw, she had 5!!! tens on her report card and two eights. I mean, if that doesn't count for a killer report card, I don't know what does. Like I said, she's a rock star!

Very understanding

While she has done very well at school, she's also been very understanding when I can't live up to her expectations when in pain, which makes me extremely proud. I try to push through for her as well so that she is not bothered with it all the time but seeing her truly understand and come to hug me that she feel sad for me to be in so much pain, that's making me even more proud of her. She's growing up fast, and I'm very happy that we will be able to make tons of memories this summer. It's her and me mostly as her dad needs to work, which is a shame..

Today was better

As I mentioned taking another medication together with my regular ones really made a difference today. Yes, I still got into pain later in the afternoon when standing too long in the kitchen with a too low counter top (hard to change that in a rental lol) but there was a huge difference in the rest of the day already. Meaning we could go swimming together as promised!

My doctor told me that swimming is the best way to keep my back in motion and also the least chances of any complications. While he supports the bicycle indoor sessions from next week as well, he says the swimming sessions should be prioritised.

Great swim!

Gosh we felt so grateful today when we ended up in the pool and barely any neighbour was using it. Within 30 minutes we had the big pool to ourselves and we loved it! We talked a lot and practised swimming because last year they said she could swim but that's clearly not the case yet. We will keep practising this summer and then find a swimming school probably somewhere in the next year to get her diploma there. For now it works fine, we're close to her, she has this big noodle which helps her float and there's a lifeguard when the pool is open.

Relaxing and time for frozen yoghurt

After the swim I prepped dinner and had my first afternoon without needing to rest on the bed at some point. I managed to pull through the day without that and that felt like such a victory. I'm not pain free but gosh such tiny victories feel huge.

After dinner we went for frozen yoghurt as she deserved that for sure with such a report card. When we had the yoghurt we drove to one of the budget stores to check which school supplies were available for better prices than the average store in our area sells them and we managed to get some stuff off the list already for a very good price!

Amazon for the win

Having amazon business prime can be very convenient because today I immediately went hunting for some supplies online and found some cheaper on amazon items, meaning it's truly a lot cheaper because of no shipping fees. At least half (probably more) of the school supplies list for next school year is already ordered or bought for great deals. Love it!

Apparently the books will be handed out at school in September so I don't have to worry about arranging that part this year. Great. This was a very lucrative and productive day with less pain than the rest of the past weeks, making me feel even more grateful.

Tomorrow we don't have any appointments scheduled so it will be another crafting and swimming session at the very least..

How's your week going so far?

I'm so sorry you're in pain, I know how much your back is bothering you, and has been bothering you. I am sending positive energy and love your way that you feel better soon my sister. Listen to those subs haha. But how great that your girl is doing so well in school, she truly is a rock star! But she's your daughter so I wouldn't expect anything else. Talk to you soon hopefully! I miss our little chats (at 4 in the morning for me hahaha). Love you!

I'm glad you had a productive day! That's awesome that she's doing so well in school. Your back on the other hand is bad news. Hopefully noting new is going on!
