Sibling Rivalry

My younger child always feel entitled to my bossom, anytime the older brother comes close, she begins to cry from wherever position she is seated.
She always would want to push him off my bossom so as to have her way and when she succeeds in doing that, she will mischievously smile and immediately stop crying.

The older brother sometimes feels bad and walks away or fight her off so as to stay glued me.

Whenever, they return from school, and I ask them what they did in school, every one is eager to be the first to tell mommy what they did and how what they did is the best.

Sibling rivalry can be found among children, as it is a state of a child proving to be the best among other children of thesame parent. Each child is trying to prove a point to the parent and in the process, hate is built among siblings.

Unhealthy competition sets in and everyone is trying to out-do the other person without minding who is hurt. If a child senses he/she isn't doing enough to be noticed and to be in the "good book" of the parent, they tend to hate on the other good sibling(s).

Hence, as parents and as mothers especially, we are saddled with the responsibility to discourage sibling rivalry among our children by doing the following:

1)Loving every child uniquely as every child is unique.

2)Appreciate them when they have accomplished a task regardless of how it turned out. Atleast appreciate the efforts put in doing the assignment.

3)Correct everyone in proportion to the offences committed (regardless of which child committed what) Not showing favoritism.

4)Affirm each of them based on their unique abilities and teach them to appreciate their differences.

Spread love in the home front.

Children full of hate grow up into adults who in turn make the society void of love and tranquility.
