I browsed through some of my old phone backups and found some fungi for #fungifriday by @ewkaw
First up we have some raspberry slime mold with the flash on.
Now some without the camera flash. I usually find this stuff in the hot humid days of summer.
Here is the forest I found it in. Maples and other hardwoods are what slime mold likes to grow on.
A familiar sight, pleated ink caps.
You can find these growing in planters and on lawns fairly easily.
Technically these are edible but they are so tiny and only last about a day before drying up so it would be impossible to harvest any for a meal.
Here is a nice swampy area perfect for mushroom hunting. I tend to find chicken of the woods, oysters and even lion's mane around this swampy area. You need to spray lots of deet on you to combat the mosquitos though.
Here is an example of lion's mane growing on one of the dead trees in the swamp. It is way too small to harvest at this point.
Now for a random snake photo, this is beepers my pet California king snake who managed to escape while I was cleaning his cage. He must have liked the heat of the computer.
Very pretty snake!
He was getting defensive once he got back behind the computer. That's his striking pose.
He found a nice, warm spot and you want to move him...
I'm not surprised :)
I have to wear gloves to pick him up, the only way to remove him when he bites your hand is to put him under running water lol.
I focus on the tiny mushroom that is very interesting to look at ...
They sprout often but dry up within a day or so. Almost like a perfect umbrella.
Fortunately the snake has bad aim at biting lol.
