Mushrooms have shown up in my balcony garden for this #mushroommonday

Here is Leucocoprinus birnbaumii growing in my passion fruit vine pot. This mushroom is often called the flower pot mushroom as most soil you buy from the store has its mycelium in it.

Here is my balcony garden and you can see the mushroom lower left. The flower pot mushrooms can get fairly large.

Some smaller ones were fruiting under the larger one. I decided to keep an eye on them to see how they grew.

After a couple hours the big mushroom was shriveling a bit.

The little guys didn't seem to grow at all after a couple hours. Maybe they need more watering.

By the next morning the big one had fallen over and one of the little ones had split open. Seems these guys only last about a couple days at most.

These mushrooms are slightly toxic so they should not be eaten. They will cause a stomach ache if eaten. So if you have kids or dogs try and keep your flower pot mushrooms away from them.

Now for some ufos. I noticed these guys growing all over the place in the grass at the park.

Their gills seem symettrical and there is no stem ring. I highly doubt these are edible and they are only about a couple inches in diameter. So even if they were edible you would have to harvest lots of them just to get a decent meal.

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

You have kids! careful lol Tomotoes look nice though haha farther along than ours

Yeah I suspect when winter rolls around my wife might be selling that passion fruit before we bring it back inside. The tomatoes are thriving this year, they also have mushrooms in their pot just tiny edible pleated ink caps though.

Lots and lots of toxic mushroom! That's interesting, I know enough about mushrooms not to eat them from the wild because I don't know what they are. Where did you learn about mushrooms? Those tomatoes look great, I love tomatoes fresh off the vine!

I do deep dives on mushroom identification whenever I see a new one in my area. Quite a few are easily identifiable and edible without any fear of accidentally getting poisoned. My favorite is chicken of the woods and of course morels. I might have to make sauce out of some of those tomatoes, they'll all ripen at the same time too much to eat all at once.

Tomato sauce is awesome too! What exactly is chicken of the woods?

Its a bright orange mushroom that tastes like chicken. https://unrulygardening.com/chicken-of-the-woods-mushroom/

Those are really cool, I don't live in the north east any more though!

Chicken grows all over the US except for desert areas but even then they might be up in the mountains where there is moisture in the fall. Usually from september to november is its growing season.

I think this is the species I found when I filmed my cover of "speak of the dead"

they appear all through the video I found a place that had tons of them

They look really cool in the video with the music. The ones in your video look to be Macrolepiota procera anice big edible kind (beware the green vomiter lookalikes with green spores though). The type on my balcony are yellow and about half the size. Plus mine are slightly toxic.

Someone told me they were edible and I collected just one, but then I did not dare to eat it, and I think I did right cos I got several conflicting information, if not sure, better skip ;-) and thanks for the compliment, for me they are better when they grow ;-) I love mushrooms though
