Think like a gazelle. Move like a gazelle. Rest like a gazelle.

I think and analyze a lot. Most people would probably say I overthink and overanalyze a lot. I would agree with most people. I have always had the kind of brain that burns pretty consistently, whether I'm awake or sleeping. At times, I've thought it was a curse instead of a blessing. As I age, I'm very thankful for the kind of mind I have.

However, I think many people would agree that there are dangers in overthinking/overanalyzing. But I would make a strong suggestion to you that you not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Side note: that is funny American expression that means don't throw out the good with the bad. And yes, from what I remember reading somewhere, years ago - the saying is actually purported to have come from the turn of the century where families would all bathe in the same water. Father bathed in clean water, followed by siblings - oldest first. Sadly, the baby was washed last in water so filthy that the baby couldn't be seen. Whoever threw the bathwater out, had to be careful to not toss the baby with it. Funny saying - not sure how much of the history of it is true - but I digress. In this post, let's be sure to keep the good and toss the bad.

As I've gotten older, I've learned to stop criticizing my overanalysis - AS LONG AS I didn't let it paralyze me. I would be the first to admit that one of the most annoying situations to experience is watching an accident unfold while people stand around witnessing it escalate.

Classic example? A toddler spills their drink at the table. Mouths agape, the entire family sits, watching the liquid sloshing around, spilling over the edge of the table, and soaking the floor. I was one of those moms that grabbed the cup within a second of it tipping, while yanking a handful of napkins out of the holder to stop any spills from spreading.

For me? Analysis and even over-analysis isn't the problem.

It's the paralysis that causes the greater damage.

I envision a gazelle (me) and a cheetah (problems of life). Right before the gazelle start to act, it's thinking, watching, analyzing, waiting. When the cheetah gets too close for comfort, the gazelle doesn't stop thinking - it just starts moving. You can observe this easily, because as it's trying to survive, it's making evasive moves, trying to outsmart its predator, and often switching direction/techniques.

Too often we convince ourselves that we have to make the PERFECT move at the outset. Do you think the gazelle is trying to figure out the best direction to go? I don't. I think the direction that matters most in the beginning is AWAY from the cheetah.

So my tips for you fellow over-thinkers:

  • EMBRACE your beautiful gift of analysis.
  • Think when you can, but think on the MOVE. Even a slow move. Stagnation allows the cheetah close the distance.
  • Once you start, you're not FIXED in that direction. Just CHOOSE to move, and trust you'll be able to evaluate and adjust along the way.
  • When you've outrun the cheetah, (and you will, my gazelle friend!) REST and RECOVER, cuz tomorrow? The cheetah returns.

Lots of love to you all ❤️

Move like a gazelle.. yeah not gonna happen! LoL 😄 The rest I can handle.

As for the milk, we are in alike in reactions. Much easier to clean the table than the floor IMO. No sense staring at the problem growing by the second lol. 🙃

Nothing wrong with analysis, I too over think at times. So I get a legal pad and write it down, with 2 columns... good/bad fix it/don't fix it. It's easier for me to visualize my thoughts about problems and etc. And yeah... that poor baby has been thrown out so many times, it's criminal.

Have a great evening! 😄

HAHAHAHA I'm just getting back here to answer this! LOL

I guess I should said... get your ass moving... like a gazelle does when its being chased.

I didn't exactly mean move WITH THE GRACE of a gazelle LOLOLOL

I've been traveling and have just started to get back to some semblance or normalcy - so I apologize for my late replies on my comment section here! LOL

I think of you often...in the quiet. in the peace.

I hope you are finding the moments of stillness and stringing them together in a pearl necklace of peace also! hehehehe

love to you! (sorry for late reply - i've been traveling hehe)

This is so inspiring! The power to think of the next move when we are stuck around problems like the cheetah will save us from being eaten up by such problems. Being in one spot and looking for ways can never yield result at all. I was eager to read this post when I saw the title.

Yes, I want to be like the gazelle who was already thinking and analyzing its escape route from the cheetah. Having power to think and analyze is the best one could ever have.

This is so inspiring and you have just given us a wonderful tips of solving our problems. Thank you Momma ❤❤

hehehe sorry for my late reply here! but I love when I can choose a title that pulls people in! Isn't the title always the hardest to formulate?!?! hahahah I always think so! LOL

I'm so glad that you were inspired by it... now its been 5 days since you read it. hehehe have you started adopting this practice into your life??
if not... start when you wake up! hehehehe

just move! :)

Too often we convince ourselves that we have to make the PERFECT move at the outset

The thoughts of kicking off perfectly often atimes stops us from starting at all and breeds in Procastination.
Starting and readjusting along the line is probably the best.
Thanks for sharing.

exactly... waiting for perfection is waiting to be devoured. hehehe

we need to not worry about perfection and just worry about getting a move on! hehehe

thanks for visiting :)

Only a few people are blessed with this overthinking ability, imagine a few taking steps without knowing the outcomes. And you are the one who is thinking even the after-effects. So Gazelle is always in the advantage of having border vision.

the gazelle doesn't stop thinking

A few times we are who is tormenting ourselves that is why we think in this way. But as you said let's toss the bad and save the good. Hehehe that American expression made me smile, what if they have tossed the baby🥴 the one who is always getting crushed in case of privileges doesn't deserve this Nah. And you are a wise Gazelle ❤

hehehe sorry for the late reply!!! but YES. i am "blessed" with this overthinking ability hahahahaha

I often do not have a CLUE what is coming next - but I know what the very NEXT step looks like - and so I take it! hehehe

and yes - that poor baby! hahahaha

there it goes ROFLLLLLLLLLLLLL

sorry for a late reply - i am just now seeing all of these while I was traveling hehehehe

love you Writer Ayesha! :)

They say that cheetahs are successful in only 1 in 3 attacks... so the odds are ever in your favour... if you are the gazelle.🤗 The secret lies in endurance and maneuverability; outthinking instead of simply outrunning. The cheetah can move exceptionally quickly, in short bursts. Its prey has adapted and learned not to try to outrun the cheetah as a primary objective - for that is not possible, although it remains the end goal. Instead, as you say, it keeps moving, but slowly, away from the cheetah, gaining perspective, conserving its energy, ever watchful, and then it makes a 3rd unpredictable choice, neither fight nor flight, and the cheetah is foiled, almost every time!

I am an overthinker, analytical by nature, I get into the detail... so I get where you are coming from. When things start messing with my sense of well-being, it can be frustrating. I start to question what I know to be true, and my joy can dissipate... quickly. Yep, there's that curse you speak of!

And when I feel the cheetah closing in, that's when TRUST and FAITH also have to come into play, because there is no point trying to outrun my feelings. The only way to beat the cheetah, at close quarters, is to face it and deal with it. Work with what I know. I don't always find that easy myself, I mean...it's a freakin' cheetah, right??? But I have to take a moment and be reminded of the essential goodness in the world. I have to have faith in my own inner strength, and trust in the support of the herd, of which I am a part. And then I need to remember to be gentle with myself and to continue to walk the line of Grace.

This was a wonderful post, Dreems. I loved what you did with this analogy. It was thoughtful and profound and will no doubt help quite a few people. You got me thinking, and reflecting... in a very good way 💗

Oh,... and I'd never lose the baby, I'm much too paranoid for that to ever happen 😂

And that cheetah, when he comes back the next day, sure we have to do the work, but we know we got him beat because with each encounter, we learn more about him, and he becomes more predictable and easier to shake off 😉

I hope you have a lovely weekend. Lots of love right back at you❣️
