I watched Knives Out not really knowing what to expect, and honestly, it had me hooked the entire time.
The story starts with the sudden death of Harlan Thrombey, a wealthy crime novelist, found dead right after his birthday party. At first glance, it looks like suicide, but things quickly start to unravel when detective Benoit Blanc—played by Daniel Craig—steps in with his odd Southern accent and calm-but-curious approach.
What makes this movie stand out is how well the mystery is built. It doesn’t just rely on a final twist. Instead, it keeps layering new information, making you question everything you think you’ve figured out. Even when it feels like the story has revealed its hand early, it still manages to surprise you later.
The characters are a highlight on their own. Everyone in the Thrombey family feels suspicious in their own way, and the performances are solid across the board. Chris Evans brings just the right amount of arrogance, Jamie Lee Curtis is sharp and cold, and Ana de Armas plays Marta—the nurse who finds herself in the middle of everything—with a quiet strength that really carries the emotional side of the film.
The pacing is tight, the humor works without being overdone, and the visual style of the movie gives it that classic mystery feel but with a modern energy. I never found myself bored or waiting for the story to move forward. It just kept me engaged from scene to scene.
Knives Out is the kind of mystery that respects the audience. It doesn’t spoon-feed you the plot, and it lets you enjoy figuring things out—only to pull the rug out at the perfect moment. A really satisfying watch from start to finish.
Have you seen it? Did you see the ending coming, or were you as caught off guard as I was? Would love to hear your thoughts.
