"Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince" by David Yates: Farewell

Introduction

"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" carries one of the most significant events in the wizarding world, the death of a very important person whose reasons can only be understood by himself. His death was viewed by many as a monumental loss but he sees his death as the beginning of an end of someone so evil that he must do what he has to do, to die, to realize the end of an evil.

The Film's Narrative

"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" is mainly about the mysterious persona that was introduced through a book that contains an alias which is "Half-Blood Prince". It is this Half-Blood Prince that paves the way to a monumental event that everyone knew was only the death of one's enemy. Little did they know that the one who died already knew that he was going to die and he planned all along to die in such a manner for his greater purpose to be realized, the end of an evil.

Thoughts

Just like in the previous movies I always waiting for something new and surprises for this film. The first surprise came when Albus Dumbledore and Harry Potter went to the house of Professor Horace Slughorn to convince him to come to Hogwarts to teach potion making. The surprise is in the form of a sofa (see image below) when Horace Slughorn concealed himself to avoid Death Eaters. But Albus Dumbledore knew that Professor Horace Slughorn was in a sofa form when he saw a pair of shoes underneath it.

I am looking for moments in the previous film with a scene where the three protagonists would stand side-by-side (see image below) and in this film "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" fulfilled it. I was looking for the scene because I am so excited to see how have they grown up since the first film.

The mystery is what makes the Harry Potter film series a very good movie. Once I watch Harry Potter I am patiently waiting for the mystery to start. The mystery began when the three protagonists accidentally spotted Draco Malfoy and his mother walking in a direction. The three followed and they saw Draco Malfoy seem to be looking a some kind of furniture which was later revealed to be a vanishing cabinet. A vanishing cabinet usually has a twin which can be used as a backdoor or passage wherever they are placed. That scene made me very very curious and it got more intended when one of the birds that Draco Malfoy put inside came back dead.

Of course, this film was not without a scene that can make you smile for a bit. The scene that makes me smile is when the class of Professor Horace Slughorn attempts to make a potion and if successful will be rewarded with a one vial of Felix Felicis, a liquid luck potion. Of course, Harry won it thanks to the book owned by the Half-Blood Prince (see image below the vial of Felix Felicis).

Another surprise that this film surprises me is the memory that is kept in a vial. Memories that can be read and preserved almost forever given that the container is not destroyed. Albus Dumbledore specifically gets one of the memory vials containing the memory of him when he first met Tom Riddle. The idea of a memory that can be kept in a vial is the first that I have seen in this film, Harry Potter has solidified its place as one of the most unique stories ever made.

Also, it is this movie that made me giggle because it finally confirmed the feelings of Ron and Hermione (see the image below of Hermione smiling at Ron). As for Harry it is still not known until the later part of this movie who his love interest is.

Moving forward, I am impressed to know that the memory that is kept in a vial can be tampered with, how the memory was tampered with was not mentioned but it is really impressive to know that the film has, a tampered memory that I can I haven't seen in any movie before, impressive.

This film also shows the brilliant mind of Albus Dumbledore and I am impressed. After a long time and five films after, this film has finally shown that Albus Dumbledore is not resting in investigating to defeat the enemy.

I am looking forward to the duel between Harry and Draco and in this film, it finally arrived. Of course, Harry got the upper hand when he used a spell that he read from the book of the Half-Blood Prince, the spell was not specifically explained in the book but when Harry used it against Draco it caused wounds to the receiver of the spell. I am waiting for the duel and Harry beating Draco is what I want to see.

I never thought that I would be seeing a revelation in this film. The revelation is so interesting it made this film stand out from the previous films, the revelation is about Horcrux, a way to put a part of someone's soul in an object so that it will be kept and the owner can live forever.

Then the mother of all momentous events in the Harry Potter film series came in this movie when Albus Dumbledore was killed. Perhaps his killing is one of the most confusing because it was one of his closest allies killed him. His death seems to me that was already set, that his ally must kill him in order for the grand plan to take place (see image below the scene where Albus was about to be killed).

Conclusion

This film has been one of the most interesting and heartbreaking to many Harry Potter fans because of the death of Albus Dumbledore and also not a very ordinary death as it confides with betrayal. A betrayal that can only be confirmed in the next film.

I must say that this film is the most brilliant of all, a must-watch, but in order to understand it, one must watch the previous if you want to fully understand this film.
