Also known as "Smell of strawberries", Çilek Kokusu is a romantic comedy where love, hate and intrigue intertwine, starring Demet Özdemir (Asli) and Yusuf Çim (Burak).
Asli is a young lower class girl who works in a pastry shop, her cakes are famous for being considered the best. One day, a customer places an order and Asli goes out to make the delivery, but, on the way an accident happens to her, she is almost run over by a car driven by Burak, a millionaire and philandering guy. In the incident, the cake is destroyed, which causes an argument between the two. As a result, Asli loses her job, a fact that worries her since she needed the money to cover her school expenses.
Gonca (played by Zeynep Tugçe Bayat) , his co-worker who had an offer to work in a hotel in the city of Bodrum, asks him to accompany him but when they get there they realize that the trip was lost, the hotel was closed and would open the following year. Unable to return that night, they try to stay at a nearby hotel with no success as it was too expensive for them. However, the receptionist Erdem (Anil Çelik) after hearing their story gives them cooperation, and offers to talk to the owners of the hotel to get them a job opportunity.
It is from this moment where the series becomes interesting, as our protagonists Asli and Burak begin their romance story, one where the hatred between them for the accident that happened with the cake kept them apart, but fate was in charge of uniting them in different circumstances. First they coincide at a party, where Burak has a fight with another person for helping Asli to defend her friend, when they leave the place, they are photographed holding hands by paparazzi, which generates anger to Murak's girlfriend. They then coincide at the hotel owned by Murak's family, the same hotel where Asli and Gonca get the job.
This encounter was very funny because Asli did not know that Murak owned the hotel and he decides to bother her in the pool area, asking her as a customer, to bring him a soda, then changes to soda, then water and continues until Asli annoyed by the foolishness throws the drink on his head, which causes her to be fired. When Murak finds out, he runs after her on the way to the airport to prevent her departure. The climax and tension increase, as on the way back to the hotel the adventures continue, the car crashes on the way, they get lost, they have to spend the night staying in a farmhouse, and all these events make the attraction increase as well as the rancor.
At dawn, they are helped by a farmer who brings them closer to the city, although the tension has decreased, Asli does not allow herself any feelings for Burak since she knows his history of womanizing, however, Murak without knowing it already feels in love with her. Back at the hotel, Murak learns that the bride is on her way and asks Asli for help, to get rid of the mess of the photos in the press, he told the bride that Asli was the bride of the cousin, so he asks her to pretend to be that woman, Asli at first does not accept but in the end she is convinced. This cousin is Volkan (Ekin Mert Daymaz), the man Asli was attracted to while working at the pastry shop, but she was unaware of this fact.
When the time comes Asli and Volkan meet, however the meeting with Murak's girlfriend does not happen that night because an unexpected event makes our protagonists have to flee by boat, which brings one more night of adventures between them, which unites them even more. After everything happens, Asli resigns and goes back to Istanbul, and unknowingly ends up living in Murak's house since his mother had lost her home and at the same time had found a job in Murak's family. At this point we reach the climax of the relationship between the two, on the one hand they are unaware that they live under the same roof and on the other, they cling to not falling in love with each other knowing that they already are.
The trigger of the romance occurs when Asli and Murak start working at Murak's family's club, they believe that their meetings are because one pursues the other, however it is all fate's work. At the same time, they discover that they live in the same house, and it is there where the love between the two begins to nurture. Many things will happen between the two, but Murak promises that he will fight against everything and everyone that stands in the way of their relationship, keeping his promise until the end of the story.
Çilek Kokusu, a novel that shows us that where there is love, social class differences do not matter, a plot that leads us to believe in the impossible, showing that two hearts united by the same feeling are able to overcome the most complex abversities that life puts in the way. If you are one of those who like romantic comedies, this Turkish series is definitely for you.
