I came across the preview of this series when I was surfing through my streaming site a couple of weeks ago. When I watched the trailer, the storyline of this series picked my interest. I quickly added it to my watchlist. So over the weekend I had the time to see the first season and the second season is airing presently already.
I say this series is a fantastic show with an unpredictable twist, mystery and it centers around how guilty pleasures can't get a hold of one firmly. It is a show that seamlessly mixes four genres together to form a thrilling, and suspenseful story.
”Found” is a tv series that combines four genres (procedural, crime, mystery, thriller). It was created, produced and run by Nkechi Okoro Carroll alongside others. It premiered on NBC network with 19 episodes for the first season.
This series revolves around a young lady who is relations specialist and crisis manager Gabi Mosely and her team of associates who work tirelessly to find missing people that have been forgotten or ignored by law enforcement and the mainstream media. This show starred Shanola Hampton, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Kelli Williams, Brett Dalton, Gabrielle Walsh, Arlen Escarpeta and Karan Oberoi.
The story of this show begins with introducing us to Gabi and her team of associates as they find people who are missing that have been ignored by the law or media mainstream. As they do this work, we are slowly integrated into their lifestyle, working ethics, personal life (past traumas, secrets, weaknesses, and strength), and a little bit about their love lives.
There is a little back story to Gabi that made her specialize in finding missing people. Twenty years ago, she was kidnapped by her high school teacher, Hugh "Sir" Evans, who is a serial kidnapper and a psychopath. He held her captive for a year and eight days. Eventually, Gabi escapes Sir but now, she has kidnapped Sir as revenge and locked him up in her basement while she uses him to help solve her difficult cases of missing persons.
As things began to progress, Gabi indulged in her guilty pleasures. This began to become an issue as she is beginning to become dependent on her kidnapper’s knowledge and expertise. This gave room to empower Sir and make him believe that he has certain control over her. How will this end for Gabi? Will another kidnapping cycle happen again?
My favorite Characters.
Azaria Carter as Teen Gabi
When I started watching this series, I couldn't connect well with the Adult Gabi, Shanola Hampton who is the lead character. For me Shanola, didn't portray the adult Gabi role well. It was actually a poor and terrible performance. On the other hand, Azaria as the teen Gabi was more compelling, convincing and perfect. She was one of the reasons why I continued watching the show to the end. She was the spotlight of the show. She was the one that made me understand what Gabi’s character was all about and the ordeal she has been through in the hand of her captor.
Mark-Paul Gosselaar as “SIR”
Mark’s performance as the Sir character was phenomenal and convincing. He blended with his role like it was a natural duty for him. He carried his role with good charisma that was required. He was able to let me into the mind of a serial kidnapper and a psychopath. He was blunt, creepy, rough on the edges, self righteous and at the same time sharp as a fox. I enjoyed his role and he was intriguing to watch.
Karan Oberoi as Dhan Rana
This is one character that I enjoyed watching a lot. Karan was the comic relief of the show. Also, he was their personal enforcer, who is ex-military, hot-headed, with a traumatic past that makes him unpredictable and hard to read. I think he was the character that held team Gabi together firmly. Without him they would all fall apart. He is the backbone of the team.
My Review And Rating
This show has great potential of being a masterpiece later into many other seasons if they keep up with the quality. The storyline is one of a kind and unique. The storyline gives room for it to be dynamic and unpredictable. It also gives room for a solid subplot to be developed right inside it and perfectly intertwined with the main plot.
I love the way Nkechi wrote the plot, structured it around the dark side of humanity, how we humans can indulge in our guilty pleasures and assure ourselves that it's right and deserving. How the journey of revenge can darken one's soul and change the person entirely. How traumatic events in one lifw can contribute to one's present and personality. Also, I love all the themes that were explored in this show.
The scene arrangements were good, the suspense and tension were well integrated into the show, each episode is fast-paced and thrilling. This made me look forward to the next episode. The cast were exceptional, perfect fitting to all their roles. I love the conservative setting. The cinematography, top notch and the camera work was amazing. Also, before I forget, the storytelling method was absolutely impressive, precise and comprehensive at the same. The flashback between past and present of all the characters was perfectly done smoothly.
Rating this tv show, I will give it 7.8 out of 10 stars. I wish the lead character could be better than she was. But apart from that this is a tv series that you enjoyed watching. It's also dark in its own unique way.
